March 10, 10 by sharky 3,238 views One of the biggest complaints from seedbox users is not about the BitTorrent upload/download speeds within the server itself; rather, the FTP speeds in which the files are transferred back to the home PC. Often these sluggish FTP speeds can be attributed directly to the server provider; OVH is one of the usual suspects here. We’ll show you how to get the most out of your bandwidth using FTP clients that support segmented downloading.

Some skeptics said this day would never come; others agreed that it was all part of a scheme to rake in more donations. After ongoing discussions spanning over the past two years in reference to a tentative beta release for SCC, finally it has come to fruition. The Internet’s #1 scene tracker has undergone quite a few new changes in SCC v2, although we doubt if it took the entire two years to code.

Compared to last month’s list of mostly-forgettable duds, this edition of new trackers contains a few pleasant surprises. New sites include: 3 new HD trackers; 2 music trackers; 2 niche trackers; and of course, some RO/EN trackers that you’ll probably want to avoid.

March 05, 10 by sharky 6,732 views Here’s a great opportunity to those who’ve been looking to join one of BitTorrent’s best-kept secrets - TorrentVault.org is presently open for registration. If memory serves correctly, it’s been nearly a year since this 0sec scene tracker has offered open signups. With upwards of 45,000 torrents indexed since resurfacing back in late October ‘09 using Gazelle’s codebase, TV should not be overlooked. But hurry; the member limit is just 15K which leaves ~2,500 under 1,000 open spots.
Update: Signups are now closed, 15K member limit has been reached.

Haven’t heard about Cinavia? Chances are, you will soon if you download pirated movies and attempt to play them back on a Blu-ray player or through a PS3. Cinavia is a somewhat new DRM technology that uses "audio watermarking" embedded into the audio stream portion of a movie. In a nutshell, what it does is compare the source of the audio to the format in which a movie was released (ie theatrical or commercial disc), and if the watermarked audio source detects a difference, the movie will either be mute (but most likely not play at all). So far, there have been at least two popular movies found on peer-to-peer that contain Cinavia DRM: TS/CAM versions of The Wolfman and Shutter Island.

March 01, 10 by sharky 3,388 views Big news for Gazelle fans & tracker devs - it’s been more than a year since What.CD developers had released an updated version of Gazelle; release candidate 2 has finally arrived. Citing "thousands of changes", What.CD has already been running on RC2 for quite some time. For the first time ever, Gazelle is now publicly available (non-svn) as a download for anyone looking to create a tracker, or else just tinker around with the source code.

The days are numbered for ZeroSec, once billed as the number 2 release blog second only to RlsLog.net. The new owners had but two avenues to traverse for the future of the blog: either keep the status quo; or else tank the site beyond all repair. After a series of blunders which can only be described as sheer lunacy on the part of the new proprietors, there’s little doubt that ZeroSec will come to a crashing halt, and soon. Abandoned by editors, readers and commenters - little else remains except for a quick death of this once-popular release site.

Most of us who download scene releases don’t keep the original RARs, sample, NFO & SFV files after extracting the goodies inside. If you unpack and delete the RARs, there’s no way to get back to the originals without some major hacking - and even this doesn’t guarantee that the rar set will pass a proper CRC check when reseeding. But if you have the *.avi or *.mkv file, ReScene is a cool utility that lets users rebuild scene release NFO, SFV and RARs from a single extracted file back into their original scene format.
