Private Trackers Announce ‘Global Ban’ Of Romania

Romania - a real hotbed for tracker activity - has yet again found itself on uncertain ground in amongst the private tracker community. This was recently rekindled a few days ago when Waffles.fm officially announced that Romania is "largely a cesspool of spam" and is thus now globally banned from the tracker. This includes all existing members, as well as potential future invitees. Today, ScT also announced plans to rid Romanian users from its tracker.

Waffles: Due to Romania being largely a cesspool of spam, viruses, phishing, and fraud, and phishing attempts, fraudulent donations, cheating, and the like from various Romanian IPs with zero action on the part of Romanian ISPs, Romania is hereby banned from Waffles. Please take care to not invite people if you know they’re in or from Romania. We will not take action against you, but may change tune in the future.

The Waffles’ decision comes hot off the heels of a phishing scam which involved random PMs (personal messages) to other Waffles members:

Waffles: A bunch of you may have received a PM from a Waffles user “TdskLink” this afternoon. This PM was an attempt at phishing yahoo accounts. The user in question has been banned from Waffles, and the PM’s which he sent have been removed.

What.cd also issued an alert to a similar phishing scam at their tracker, although there’s no mention of an impending ban of Romania, or if .ro ranges are even involved (although we’d be leaning towards a "yes" vote on this).

What.cd: Urgent Update: If you have been sent a PM from “JerTheRipper” do not open it - it is a phishing attempt scam. We have disabled all accounts involved and are working to delete the messages before anyone has a chance to even view them. If you notice anything suspicious feel free to PM any of the Staff.

ScT Next Up To Ban Romania

Following suit today was ScT, who also opted to block Romanian IPs from the tracker, in the hopes to tighten security & thwart invite giveaways & cheaters; which in recent trends are often stemming from *.ro-based IP ranges.

ScT:

Reason: giveaways.

banning .ro solves the problem… SonOfDorel, SoKaT, Crosshair (Cappsor), TheLiquid and a few others are the users .ro have to thank for firmly making our minds up.

Waffles and ScT are not the only ones that globally ban Romania, as SCC seems to be way ahead of the curve (if not ban-happy).

Romania Has Company: Israel, Egypt, Poland…

Here’s a non-exhaustive summary of other trackers that ban countries and IP ranges. Note that this is not an official list, as data was acquired elsewhere.

  • SCC: bans Israel, Poland, Egypt, Brazil and Romania (& probably even more).
  • Swedvdr: you need to be in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland (all other IPs are banned).
  • ScT: Poland and Israel
  • HDBits.org: Poland, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, China
  • Demonoid: bans Belgium
  • TorrentBytes: bans Israel
  • BCG: bans (parts of) Brazil
  • TorrentLeech: bans all or most of Israel (probably all).
  • BitMeTV: has banned Israel, some IP ranges in Brazil, Croatia, Poland and countless others.
  • India’s #1 Internet provider (BSNL) is banned by HDBits.org and many other trackers.

    i’m sorry to see all this people full on envy on romanians just because they have great speeds for 10E while a person from Germany for example has a crappy speed for 50E.
    i don’t think it was a romanian to hack waffles …it’s just cheap dirty cold lies from the ‘pancake-like batter product’ tracker.I also think that there is a small dirty connection between waffles and sct…

    first it was Romanians who did the phishing scam on waffles. Not really a need to try to dispute it since they had Romanian ISP’s. You have to remember though that it wasnt all of the Romanians. I know some Romanians who are great members of their sites and got screwed by this decision. I think its always unfair of a site to completely ban a country, but hell what can you do about it. Anyways very informative article sharky like always.

    I think you’ll find that most of these trackers are willing to work with the decent Romanian users.

    And #02 - yes that MUST be it! An entire tracker’s staff decided one day that they hate all Romanians and will go into cahoots with ScT to ban the whole country! Once again, Captain Clue, you have saved us from having to figure out this oh-so-mysterious conundrum1

    I am a roumanian user and have a lot of trackers of great valour, but i really think that ScT is really SHIT…sorry for this words, but i do not know what’s the fuzz all about. You better try to get your hands on TL, GFT, and other great trackers.
    And do not think that we roumanians are stupid…not at all. I use SCC for a long time and altough all romanian ISP’s are banned we use proxy’s to solve the problem. The same will happen with ScT.
    Ohhh…and fuck all the idiot that believe that a roumanian is the same with a gypsie. If you really search in the history books you will find out that GYPSIES come from a tribe from INDIA…if you would try to see the resamblance between the INDIANS and the GYPSIES you will know the truth.

    And another thing…i really pity the people who pay 20-30 Euro for 2 Mbps when in Romania you only pay 20 RON (Equivalent of 5-6 Euro). I think that some of you are jelouse of our cheap great speeds :-P

    I work on one of the bigger trackers and I can categorically tell you if I search banned users that romania is by far the worst culprit. This is not calculated by which flag you choose in your profile either, its by IP whois. On our site I would say it’s pretty much a 50/50 split of cheaters / hit and runners.
    I don’t think banning the whole ip ranges will achieve much though, where do you stop? While we’re at it should we ban israel, poland, egypt, etc?
    The only fair way to do it is to deal with each and every member fairly regardless of their origin. Good scripting and good staff like we have catch every hit and runner and 90% of all cheats. (don’t think your leech mods won’t get caught)

I always prefered the foreign trackers for their own sources most .ro ones steal from other trackers. Guess i will have to find invitations to .ro trackers from now on.

    And for all the people who are bragging about the .ro awesome speeds, they are wrong, they are very nice only in .ro, all the ISPs have very low speeds outside of .ro (between 2-5 mbps max).

    I’m glad that trackers are starting to realize what a crap country this is, my only hope is that in the future this shitty country will be banned off the face of the earth and not just from some trackers :/ The reason i hate this country is because i went there once and just was i was getting of the plane and the smell of shit hit me in the face i got robbed, i not even kidding it was literally 10 seconds after i got off the plane.     If you’ve got static IP most trackers will white list you. If you don’t have it you can usually pay for static IP.

    I see a lot of shit posted here, and a lot of primitive judgement.
    So as I see banning a big country like Romania, with other 20 mln. people, a good torrenting history, and with a lot of trackers and good users seems a bit too exagerated. A smart sysop is the one who comes with smart solutions, not lazy ones. It’s a better solutions to ban some US range of IPs who can be governmental spies, and can cause community damage, than baning a wide range of p2p users. As of spam, u can do something like a limiter for daily PMs a user can send, and a link verifier for addreses inside PMs, which can check it with phising lists all over the internet. If someone abuses PM as a chattering tool, they really should get an Instant Messaging program. As of cheating, it’s done through tools or small hacks, etc, but overall it’s the job of sysops to mantain the system’s stability, and improve the core of their trackers, for a better security. Invite trading is either done for people, which do not know each other and what to access some other trackers, and have some things which can exchange. All this stops when money is involved. For the latter, the source it’s tracking down the ones who do it, and also making a complaint form available on trackers, where user who was scammed can specify who and how much money requested from him.

    That’s what has to be done, not a lazy ideea as banning a whole country

    Also, facts have to be provided to the reasoning which stands behind making a whole country responsible for actions of particular reason. Every country has weak users, who tend to cheat, that does not mean that Romania has more, or another country, for example US has less, or maybe US doesn’t cheat, they are a bunch of classy guys, who are top-seeds, and do everything by the rules. It’s a missjudgement to label them, because as it’s well said in a romanian saying ~ “There’s no forest without bad wood”, there’s no place on earth without bad people to screw up it’s good name.

    And for the love of GOD, don’t think that romanian people are equal to gypsies. As it’s known to literate and people with a healthy cerebrial activity, gipsies are actually from India, and they migrated to a lot of places in Europe, even in Romania. Romanians, on the other hand, are related to Latin descendants, and have a old rich history. And the fact that there are faggy idiots who think that because Gypsies are also called Rromi or Rromani people, make them to be related to romanians, just demonstrates the level of intellectual inferiority some people tend to achieve.

    To all the idiots who posted their lame assraping stories, and idiotic sarcastic pseudonyms related to Romania, do yourself a favour, learn to think or if it doesn’t work, just kill yourself. You’ll do humanity a favor.
