Complete List Of Torrent Seedbox Services - Part III

March 09, 09 by sharky   20,018  views

The explosion of the seedbox phenomenon has proven to be more than just a passing fad. 2009 is shaping up to be a record year for seedbox sales & usage among DIYers, resellers and regular torrent folk alike. Here we present 18 brand-new seedbox providers for your torrenting pleasure!

This is Part III of a comprehensive series on seedboxes - additional seedbox providers can be found here in Part I and Part II.

Provider: www.outsystem.pl

BT Interface: uTorrent WebUI
Connection: 100 Mbit and 1 Gbit.
Price: Starting at $25/mo, up to $130. 1 Gbit plans start at $60 (3 per shared server) and $90 for a dedicated 1 Gbit seedbox.
Reseller?: OVH (for regular ’seedboxes’), also offers other dedis from LeaseWeb and server.lu
Hard Drive Storage: 120 GB to 500 GB.
# of Torrents: unlimited.
Access To Files: FTP (with VNC access for dediboxes).
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unlimited data transfer.
Watch out for: sold out seedboxes / long wait after ordering (3 days and up).

About: Outsystem.pl has been receiving rave reviews for torrent speeds and great customer service, although everything under their "seedbox" category remains "out of stock", and currently there’s a high volume of back orders (directly due to unavailability from OVH).

Their seedboxes are divided into two categories (For One Person: which are dedicated - you’re the only one on the box, an OVH Kimsufi); and (Shared Seedboxes: high server specs, with either 2 or 3 on the server). Their shared boxes are ideally a great bargain, since there’s a max of just 3 users per server.

Provider: Fastsh.it

BT Interface: Deluge 1.1.3 with WebUI or rTorrent (with wTorrent UI).
Connection: 100 Mbit (shared)
Price: Starting at $15/mo, up to $60.
Hard Drive Storage: 100 GB to 1000 GB.
Reseller?: From both OVH and Server.lu
# of Torrents: unlimited.
Access To Files: FTP.
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unlimited, unmetered.
Watch out for: Nothing bad to report. Look for a full-featured website soon! All plans & pricing can be found in their forums shown here.

About: With a name like Fastsh.it - it has to be good! In all seriousness, Fastsh.it isn’t looking for a quick buck - they’re a professional team that sells "slices" of servers from both OVH and Server.lu (think WB and VB from What.cd). Where else are you going to find a seedbox with 100 GB storage, unlimited torrents, unlimited bandwidth - all for just $15?

Provider: Epicservers.org

BT Interface: uTorrent WebUI.
Connection: 100 Mbit.
Price: Starting at €17/mo (Euro) and up. True dedis starting at €31.
Reseller?: OVH (France)
Hard Drive Storage: Starting at 10 GB.
# of Torrents: unlimited.
Access To Files: FTP (with VNC access for dediboxes).
Setup Time: 72 hours maximum.
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unlimited
Watch out for: sold out boxes; small storage limits on some packages; setup costs on dedicated seedboxes.

About: EpicServers.org is currently sold out of all packages, but should return next week with more services. For their ‘dedi’ plans, users have the option for "Ready-to-go Seedbox Service" when selecting which OS to use in the dropdown box when checking out (these come with uTorrent WebUI pre-configured).

Provider: ThePirateBox.net

BT Interface: TorrentFlux
Connection: 100 Mbit dedicated (shared)
Price: $4 - $8/mo.
Hard Drive Storage: 20 - 40 GB.
# of Torrents: 1-3.
Access To Files: FTP, HTTP.
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unmetered.
Watch out for: When you order it (see below).

About: ThePirateBox offers just two plans - for $4 you get just 1 active torrent, unlimited bandwidth, with 20 GB storage. The other is $8, and comes with a large 40 GB storage and 3 active torrents - great for seeding huge torrents!

Placing an order (Strategy): The caveat here is that new accounts aren’t processed until the 1st of each month, so if you order a seedbox on March 9th, you’ll have a long time to wait (until April 1st). The good news is that you won’t be charged until you receive your login details (we’ve been told). Additionally, if you don’t want to wait until the next month, for an extra $5 ’setup fee’ you’ll get your account within 48 hours.

Provider: SeedHost.net

BT Interface: uTorrent WebUI / rTorrent (w/ webUI)
Connection: 100 Mbit and 1 Gbit.
Price: Starting at €20/mo (Euro), up to €50.
Hard Drive Storage: 80 GB to 400 GB.
# of Torrents: 7 to unlimited, depending on plan.
Access To Files: FTP
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unlimited transfers.
Watch out for: Small torrent limits on their cheaper plans; lack of choices when selecting a BT interface.

About: Seedhost.net currently offers 4 ’shared seedbox’ packages, plus one dedicated server for €40/mo. All shared plans come with a very small number of users (just 2 or 3 maximum) per box, thus assuring great speeds for all. There’s even a shared 1 Gbit seedbox for €50; which comes with 400 GB storage and only 3 users max share the box and 1 Gbit connection.

Provider: YourSeedbox.com

BT Interface: TorrentFlux and uTorrent WebUI.
Connection: 100 Mbit.
Price: Starting at €6.50/mo (Euro) to €49.50 (for dedicated)
Hard Drive Storage: 20 GB to 225 GB.
# of Torrents: 5 to unlimited.
Access To Files: FTP (uTorrent); FTP/HTTP (TFlux)
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unlimited/unmetered on all accounts.
Watch out for: RSS feeds from ThePirateBay?

About: For the unbelievably low price of just €6.50 Euros, users get 20 GB storage with 5 active torrents and no restrictions on monthly bandwidth. Pay a little more (€12.50) and get 10 active torrents and 40 GB drivespace. Sub-accounts are OK for their higher-end plans.

NOTE: YourSeedbox.com’s website is natively in Dutch (look for the US flag ‘translate’ button near the bottom of the page) - which you’ll undoubtedly need in the checkout.

Provider: SeedboxesAustralia.com

BT Interface: uTorrent WebUI
Connection: 1 Gbit (shared).
Price: Starting at $20/mo, up to $136 (AUD) - Australia dollar.
Hard Drive Storage: 10 GB to 500 GB.
# of Torrents: 24 active torrents (between 2 and 5 downloading simultaneously).
Access To Files: FTP.
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: 100 GB to unlimited (on unmetered plans).
Watch out for: Expensive; small bandwidth limits on ‘metered’ accounts.

About: SeedboxesAustralia’s $20 metered package only gets you 100 GB of monthly bandwidth - easily used up in a week, if not in a few days or less. However, only the bandwidth used for seeding (upload) is counted towards this cap. Beware the expensive unmetered plans - $56 is extremely overpriced for just 10 GB storage space. That being said, the AUD is weaker than a sack full of kittens thrown into a creek - $56 AUD is just 28 Euros - but still, there are WAY better deals than this.

Provider: DediSeedbox.com

BT Interface: TorrentFlux-b4rt, uTorrent WebUI, rTorrent (wTorrent) - your choice
Connection: 100 Mbit dedicated.
Price: Starting at $50 to $65/mo. (plus setup fee)
Hard Drive Storage: 250 GB.
# of Torrents: unlimited.
Access To Files: FTP (uTorrent); FTP/HTTP (TFlux); FTP (rTorrent)
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unmetered, unlimited.
Watch out for: Setup fees.

About: DediSeedbox.com doesn’t offer a frilly web interface yet (just a shopping cart). But they make up for it by offering dedicated seedboxes only, not ’shared’ systems with God-only-knows how many other users. Prices start at just $50 for a Celeron D/215/220 1.20+ GHz with 1 GB DDR 2 memory & a 250 GB hard drive.

Caveat: Setup fees. It’s $14 for a one-time setup fee (fully understandable, since these are dedis), plus an additional $14 if you want them to install a seedbox UI of your choice (TFlux, rTorrent or uTorrent WebUI).

Provider: epicSEEDS.com

BT Interface: uTorrent WebUI
Connection: 100 Mbit.
Price: Starting at $25/mo, up to $65.
Hard Drive Storage: 30 GB to 250 GB.
# of Torrents: 10 to 25 active torrents.
Access To Files: FTP.
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unlimited.
Watch out for: Max torrent limit on their dedicated server. Why?

About: Currently, epicSEEDS offers just three plans, starting at $25 for 10 active torrents and 30 GB storage. All plans come with unlimited monthly bandwidth. One thing we can’t figure out is why they would impose a 25 torrent limit on their $65 dedicated server - if it’s your box and your dedicated 100 Mbit line, you should be able to do whatever the hell you want.

Provider: F-Tech Hosting

BT Interface: TorrentFlux-b4rt
Connection: 100 Mbit (shared)
Price: Starting at €5/mo (Euro), up to €25.
Hard Drive Storage: 15 GB to 100 GB.
# of Torrents: 5 to 30 active torrents.
Access To Files: FTP, HTTP.
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: 250 GB to unlimited.
Watch out for: Small monthly bandwidth caps on their ‘Basic’ and ‘Standard’ plans.

About: F-Tech Hosting has just three available plans - all with TorrentFlux-b4rt as the UI. For €5, users get a small transfer limit of just 250 GB for the month, 5 active torrents and 15 GB storage. If anything, we recommend their ‘Premium’ plan for €25 which includes 30 torrents, 100 GB storage and unlimited monthly throughput - you’ll eat up your transfer limit quickly on the other two packages.

Provider: Seed-Easy.com

BT Interface: uTorrent WebUI
Connection: 100 Mbit.
Price: Starting at £9.50/mo (GBP), up to £37.
Hard Drive Storage: 15 GB to 215 GB.
# of Torrents: 3 to unlimited, depending on plan.
Access To Files: FTP
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unlimited monthly transfers on all.
Watch out for: Small torrent limits on the cheaper plans.

About: Seed-Easy is currently in the process of rebuilding their website - check out their seedbox billing page for available plans. £9.50 gets you 15 GB storage and just 3 active torrents. We’re impressed with their £35 uTorrent dedibox, which comes with a dedicated (not shared) 100 Mbit line, huge 215 GB storage, unlimited traffic, unlimited torrents.

Provider: Seedbyte.com

BT Interface: uTorrent WebUI
Connection: 100 Mbit.
Price: Starting at $5/mo to $20.
Hard Drive Storage: 5 GB to 15 GB.
# of Torrents: unknown
Access To Files: FTP.
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unmetered/unlimited transfer.
Watch out for: Small storage limits.

About: Presently, you won’t find any web interface at Seed Byte - however, we’ve been told that their frontend is coming soon. We’ll save you the hassle of emailing them for the information: Currently there’s just 3 plans (Lite, Standard, and Premium - which come with 5, 10 or 15 GB storage respectively). All accounts come with uTorrent WebUI and unlimited monthly transfers - there’s no word on the number of active torrents per each account (if applicable).

Provider: SeedBoxMe.com

BT Interface: uTorrent WebUI
Connection: 100 Mbit.
Price: Starting at $24/mo., up to $259.
Hard Drive Storage: 25 GB to 1.5 TB.
# of Torrents: 3 to unlimited.
Access To Files: FTP.
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unlimited.
Watch out for: Small torrent limits.

About: In our opinion, $24 a month for just 3 running torrents seems a little expensive, especially since this is a shared OVH VPS box, likely a Kimsufi. (See below at Spacehost for a similar package for just $8/mo.) SeedBoxMe’s $44 plan is a little better with 7 torrents, but surely there are better deals than this. Their dedicated servers are probably the best bet.

Provider: Spacehost.info

BT Interface: uTorrent WebUI & TorrentFlux (you pick)
Connection: 100 Mbit.
Price: Starting at $8/mo, up to $29.
Hard Drive Storage: 8 GB to 250 GB?
# of Torrents: 3 to unlimited.
Access To Files: FTP, HTTP.
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unlimited transfer.
Watch out for: Confusing specs on checkout page.

About: For small-time seedboxing, their $8 package comes with just 3 active torrents, unlimited monthly transfer bandwidth, and a paltry 8 GB of storage. We’re particularly interested in their unlimited $29 seedbox which comes with unlimited everything, although we’re somewhat confused on the provided drivespace, which is reported as “10GB to 250GB Disk space” (so, which is it?). Even on the checkout page, it still reports this. I’d hate to shell out the 29 clams, only to find out it comes with just 10 GB storage.

Provider: Gooverdose.com

BT Interface: uTorrent WebUI & TorrentFlux (you pick)
Server Location: France, USA or Germany (you pick)
Connection: 100 Mbit.
Price: Starting at $35/mo, up to $105.
Hard Drive Storage: 40 GB to 220 GB.
# of Torrents: not mentioned (unlimited?)
Access To Files: FTP.
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unlimited transfer on all accounts.
Watch out for: Not much to complain about - aside from unknown active torrent limit.

About: Gooverdose offers mid-range to high-end seedboxes with either uTorrent or TFlux for the interface. Users can select a country of origin for the seedbox from either USA, France or Germany (which is handy). Setup time is between 1-48 hours (as advertised). There’s no mention of a torrent number limit, although at these prices we’d assume it to be unlimited.

Provider: DF-Hosting

BT Interface: unknown.
Connection: 100 Mbit (shared).
Price: Starting at $7/mo., up to $100.
Hard Drive Storage: 7 GB to 145 GB.
# of Torrents: 3 to 50.
Access To Files: unknown.
Setup Time: "under 24 hours" as advertised.
Monthly Bandwidth Usage: unlimited.
Watch out for: Small number of torrents on cheaper plans.

About: DF-Hosting is just a shopping cart for now, but has some very affordable starters’ plans if you don’t mind the tiny number of allowable torrents. There’s not much more info we can give you here - the BitTorrent interface is unknown - although all plans come with unmetered monthly bandwidth.

SiSCHO is a pretty awesome USA-based dedicated server hosting company for torrents. Its a bit pricey, but you get awesome speeds (100mbit dedicated, unlimited) and free Windows OS, if you want it. You guys should check them out. They’re offering free upgrades (choice of free 8GB extra of RAM, additional 500GB HD, or CPU upgrade)

I have their QuadCore Q8300 with 4GB RAM, 500GB HD and Windows x64 with unlimited 100mbit for 189 USD.

  4. 04   •   Emil Says:

Yeah I have outsystem, and only waited about a day for the seedbox.

Anyway, for $25, it’s amazingly good and the speeds are incredible! Usually I have 9-11 mB Up and Down, with 120GB of space…

  5. 05   •   Simplicity Says:

Hehe, this is insane, soon there will be more seedbox & dedicated server resellers than torrent sites. hehe

  6. 06   •   Diji1 Says:

Looking forward to hearing about the $6 seedbox. Sure, it’s probably going to be too good to be true but if it isn’t - damn!.

  8. 08   •   tiger6ex Says:

Hy, i want to know if any of these seedboxes are suitable for Romania. I have great download and upload speed with the peers from my country (9-12 MB/s download and 3-7 MB/s upload), but from foreign IP’s i get only 2-3 MB/s Download and 1-2 MB/s upload.

    Can you recomend me something?

Wow we’re right up there, logo and all! Talk about unexpected surprises lol.
We’ve got orders for 4 more server.lu boxes in and waiting for delivery so might be a bit of wait on those. Looking at ways to phase out OVH and offer as much as possible on server.lu to avoid OVH network and bandwidth issues.

Thanks for the kind words :) And that website is coming very soon!

  10. 010   •   Six66Mike Says:

Also to clarify our OVH has Deluge or rtorrent with wtorrent. Server.lu boxes are all fully configured VPS and you can run any client you want, including uTorrent or any other. You have root access to your VPS to install whatever client you want.

Can’t wait till April 1st to hear about the $6 seedbox, Sharky!

  18. 018   •   Username Says:

I knew it! Torrentbox.tk’s homepage thing was copied directly from proseedbox.com. I knew that whole intro thing seemed familiar…

  19. 019   •   dojjah Says:

Yeah it was! I read it somewhere else before too but wasn’t sure where. The thing is I dont think it was on proseedbox! I dont like how they dont accept paypal either, dunno if I can trust them till i actually talk to someone who was an account.

  20. 020   •   ConcernedCitizen Says:

The layout of Torrentbox.tk and proseedbox.com looks so similar. They copied those “10 reasons” and “how does it work” blurbs verbatim.

I tried out proseedbox for a month, but since mid-February their website hasn’t been updated and I haven’t been able to login to my seedbox.

My guess? Those admins from proseedbox cut and run with the money, started another website with pretty much the same layout, and they’re gonna cut and run with your $6 too if you’re not careful.

Plus, you won’t realize you’ve lost $6 until the 1st of the month, when you’re supposedly gonna get your seedbox.

  21. 021   •   dojjah Says:

sounds exactly right. I have learned from life that if something is too good to be true, it is.

  22. 022   •   John Says:

    Thanks m8 for this topic!

  23. 023   •   TorrentBox Admin Says:

    Hi all,

I thought I’d take the liberty to respond to some of the accusations being made against TorrentBox.tk.

$6 per month for all of the features we order does sound too good to be true, which is exactly why we offer it. I will try to explain our logic below, and if you have more questions please feel free to email us and ask…

Yes, we did borrow some of our text meant to inform people of what a seedbox is, but not from proseedbox.com. All of you dedicated FileShareFreak should realize, that the article is from here at FileShareFreak itself… (http://filesharefreak.com/2008/05/01/10-reasons-why-you-need-a-seedbox/). Note, there is also a similar/same article on TorrentFreak (http://torrentfreak.com/10-reasons-why-you-need-a-seedbox-080715/). I am sorry if this may have caused any offense, and this will be cited appropriately. We tried to explain a seedbox to the common user as best as possible, and these articles just did it better than we could.

Regarding the similarities in layout with our site and proseedbox, I just looked at their site, and I can see why one may be led to believe that we were a copy. I assure you that we have NOTHING to do with the fellows at proseedbox (as if my word means anything to you).

DOJJAH - I am really very sorry to hear about your experience with proseedbox, but you can be sure that nothing of the sort will happen with us. I am not sure what kind of payment processing proseedbox uses, but we use Google Checkout, and it is very easy to file a complaint with them if you think that we “cut and run” with your money.

The reason we created this site is because we were unsatisfied with the cost of seedboxes elsewhere on the internet. As you can tell, we have tried every measure possible to reduce costs, such as use FileShareFreak’s description of a seedbox, and use the .tk domain service.

$6 a month is almost too good to be true, and for a while we were even considering putting a “donations” page before we realized that it would be useless. We have little to no margin on each of our sales, and if you think that $6 per month is too less for such a service, we welcome you to give us any extra amount.

The reason we had accounts processed on the 1st of each month was to decrease cost, but we have recently added a “setup within 36 hours” option.

We recently released a new batch of accounts, and hopefully sharky will review the site soon so that we can clear up these misconceptions.

Thanks for giving us a chance.

    Regards,
    TorrentBox Admin

  24. 024   •   dojjah Says:

Alright,I’ll bite. I respect the fact that you have added a 36hr setup, and put some thought into explaining yourself. I’m all for cutting costs as long as the servers do what their suppose to. I just signed up and went for the 36hr setup.

I will comment back after setup for other readers, if FileShareFreak doesn’t beat me to it.

Looking forward to using your service TB Admin
    Thank you

@DOJJAH - I’ll definitely keep an eye out for any comments from you or others who are trying torrentbox.

  29. 029   •   Belgarion Says:

Since I heard about TorrentBox.tk on this web page, and given the small bit of controversy there has been here, I thought I’d write down my experience.

I’ve opened an account with TorrentBox.tk a couple days ago. I used the 5$ fast setup option to get it right away.

Despite a small problem with TorrentFlux and special characters (some torrent files have weird chars in there - and that caused TorrentFlux not being able to process the file, or even delete the file or the torrent), it’s been a smooth run.

Speed seems great — on well-seeded torrents, I’ve got some 2MB-6MB/s down speeds, and seen some 600kB/s up speeds, that doesn’t prove it is the service’s maximum as it depends on the demand and availability of the torrents I was processing, but it at least proves the service can deliver at least this –, and the admin answered both my email support requests within a couple hours. I have no idea how it will scale, but so far, so good. I can tell that my seedbox is running on a 1TB drive and so far, we’re 16 users on the box. The server load seems to be around 4 - 7 (linux average load) .

I’ve been using them for just about 3 days, so I can’t say anything in regards to reliability or scalability (that is, when more people subscribe to their service), but “so far, so good”.

  30. 030   •   TorrentBox Admin Says:

Thanks for the kind words belgarion, and just to clarify to some of you who may not have noted the change - TorrentBox can now be found at: ThePirateBox.net, as updated in the above article.

    Hey Jimbowen,

I just checked their website and on the home page it says: ” MAINTENANCE RUN
BACK SOON, SORRY FOR THE INCONVINEINCE “. Note the great spelling. Anyway I’m hoping that this is just a temporary issue and it will be dealt with. There’s nothing worse than losing money like this. I’ll keep sending mails to them in the off chance that it eventually goes through!?!?! I’ll also keep this page updated with anything I find out, I paid with paypal - anyone know how easy it is to claim money back? Noticed through them it’s paid to a guy called Steve Day?

  38. 038   •   micronano Says:

Hmm.. It seems, http://fastsh.it/ server is good for trackers that is easy to SEED (i.e. TL, TD, IPT, Bitme).

Don’t expect good upload speed on ScT or SCC. They’re putting many users (7~14) on VPS server which means, some of the speeds will be used up by other users.. So, get dedicated server if you planned seeding for ScT or scc..

If you’re getting 10MB/s upload speed (on ScT and SCC) on fastsh or any other SHARED seedbox provider.. you’re lucky.. coz’ there is less people or maybe the people is not using the speed much…

The 100gb VPS for $15 was a new product and caught off guard with it’s popularity. Look for new servers and no more than 6 users per box on this plans within a week, keeping in line with our other plans of about 6 users per box. Though there are people achievign quality speeds and bandwidth hitting 80mbit+ in both directions is no surprise, some of the best speeds we’ve seen are on the 100gb plans.

Disk I/O is the problem currently and is being addressed. As I said watch for much alternate hardware and smaller shares on 100gb VPS. Even at budget prices I still aim to offer a quality service and we’re working towards that.

I constantly download torrents, but don’t want to leave my computer on just for the torrents to download and increase my power bill (my Q6600 system uses like 150 watt ), a good seedbox can download 24/7 for me.
So can anyone tell me, is torrentbox.tk’s service good and reliable?

So far http://www.thepiratebox.net/ seems to be in descent speed and good costumer service. I send support emails asking them questions and I always get the email back with in a day. They told me that they are in beta and are still improving the service. I have gotten upload speeds 2000+kbs depending on the torrent of coarse some are not nearly that fast. one thing I noticed that I don’t like is I torentfulx offers you the choose to stream video it will not work on http://www.thepiratebox.net/ but I am going to email them about that and see if they will enable what for us. But once again I haven’t used them very long and I will be posting follow-up.

When I first signed up to http://www.thepiratebox.net/ they offered me a good service. It was a great seedbox for 2 weeks but then from the 3rd week onwards I have been having an insane amount of connection problems. I have emailed them over 20 times, but they only email me once to say sorry about the problems. I have also not been able to transfer my files over due to FTP having the same connection problems. If the person running this could fix the problems quickly it would have been a great seedbox, but up to now I still don’t have access to my files or the panel. Therefore I can not recommend this seedbox to anyone.

I tried seedbox from BioHost.info, Seedbox.me and ThePiratebox.net . I quickly abandoned BioHost and Seedbox.me because I didn’t feel important to them. I had to email them to make them realize that I’ve ordered a seedbox from them. Helloooo!?

While not perfect, I’m satisfied with the Pirate Box. I bought a seedbox (the $8 one) from them mid-March. I got quick service. The price is great. 40 GB of hard drive is enough for me. I would prefer more active torrents but it’s not that important for me. Something really annoying: the server respond very slowly. By example, it may take more than 1 minute to load the “settings” windows and another minute to start the download. I hope this will be fixed soon.

During the first month we got 2 downtime of several hours. Very annoying but at least they offered us 2 free days as compensation. To tell you everything, while I’m writing this, my seedbox seem down but I’m not really worried, I know it will come back later this day…

In short, for the price I’m very satisfied. If I ever get more money to put on a seedbox I will search for a better one but for now I’m happy with the Pirate Box.

  63. 063   •   Ghorty Says:

I had reupped for a second month on thepiratebox.net. And I am sorry I did. I have had about 5 days of down time since I got my second month. I do not intend to go another month since I can not even get a response from them. I have emailed 6 times in the last 20 hours with no response and the service still down.

When the system is up, it’s fine for the price. Service is HORRIBLE. up time is HORRIBLE!

It was down on April 9th, 16th, 26th, 27th, and now the 28th.

You may have noticed that our orders page is no longer available on our website. We have decided to work out a few stability issues (which some of you have noticed) before we start accepting orders.

This does not affect your current service, but please note that we are NOT accepting renewals (as such, you will not receive an expiration notice/renewal letter), and your account will expire on the set date (and will no longer be accessible).

We will be back as soon as we can provide an even better service, and we invite you to join us again in the future.

I’ve been a ThePirateBox customer for several weeks, and apart from some annoying slowness on the panel, I have absolutely no complaints at all about the service, and wish they were not disappearing, I’d be happy to give them my money again for another month.

  70. 070   •   KC Says:

The piratebox was out started 4/22, and downed for a whole week, now it gives out refund.

  71. 071   •   Ghorty Says:

Well I hope thepiratebox.net give me a refund. I would consider it a dead service and remove it from the list.

I wonder if google will do a refund against them since thepiratebox could not supply their end of the deal?

  72. 072   •   KC Says:

I got the refund email, so the the refund shouldn’t be a problem.
I don’t know if the piratebox is just going to down for a short period of time, or down for good.
The interesting thing is, It seems to be me it is just the interface that is messed up, but the torrent system inside may be still working.
When it was down in the 22, it is downloading a few files. I waited a few days and download one of the finished file, no problem. I can still access the files through the FTP, and that file is done. So I think the system itself is probably fine, it is the interface that has problem.

  73. 073   •   Vitalogy Says:

To me, everything seem dead. I can’t access the files through http://FTP. The stats in my private tracker don’t move so I’m sure there is no download/upload through the seedbox.

    I asked them few questions
( I renewed my account on April 19th, the seedbox went down on April 26th. Will I get a refund? Or will you put my seedbox back online for about 3 more weeks? Did you simply lost the 20 or 25 Gig of files I have in my seedbox? If no, will I get the chance to download them to my computer? )
and I will post again here if I get an answer.

Meanwhile, a question to all PirateBox consumers. What seedbox will you choose? I find it so hard to choose. It seem like there is NO reliable service around. :-/

  74. 074   •   KC Says:

Hmm, weird, I don’t have problem with the ftp access ever. In fact, I just downloaded a whole DVD image from there. Glad they didn’t shut down my account yet.
I just used the pirateox for a few days before they went under. Besides the lag of the interface that I often have to click a few times and wait for the page to load, especially in the evening, I don’t have much to complain. The upload is very fast, can be 400KB per torrent, WAY faster than my home upload speed.
Also, although the interface doesn’t support it, but the system itself has no problem with double bytes file name (non English names), which I am glad.

  75. 075   •   KC Says:

By the way, make sure the ftp address you try to access is correct, it can be tricky.

  76. 076   •   Vitalogy Says:

Wow! Right now everything work fine. FTP and the web interface work perfectly.

I only hope it will be up for few more days so I can download everything to my computer.

  84. 084   •   KC Says:

  85. 085   •   IanSLTX Says:

Got a VPS from fastsh.it. Setup time was reasonably fast (12 hours I guess) and server performance is okay. The problem I’m coming up against though is that their default OS image has a LOT of stuff installed. I much prefer a basic Ubuntu Server image on which I can build to whatever I need. Theirs has GNOME + Wine. Good for inexperienced users, bad for me.

Looing forward to when they’ll have more minimal OS templates available, plus a control panel, etc. Despite running with very little RAM to spare, µTorrent right now is pushing 7-7.5 MB/s up, this one’s a keeper for $20. Better than my SuperSeedbox account by a good margin, ifonly because I get full access to a VPS rather than being confined to WebUI + http://FTP.

  86. 086   •   Vitalogy Says:

I don’t know why KC got a refund (but I’m actually happy for you!) and not me. After 2 or 3 attemps to contact ThePirateBox, I officially filed a complaint with Google Checkout earlier today. After all, I simply follow the advice given in the PirateBox’s FAQ lol

” We use Google Checkout for payment processing, so if we are a “scam” you can file a complaint with them (if we take your money). “

  89. 089   •   Six66Mike Says:

IanSLTX thanks :D The control panel is actually nearly complete, this week is a focus on the servers though to migrate all old servers to our new configuration. It has significantly improved previous performance issues to the point there is no known problem. Also those over-crowded 100gb VPS boxes are being migrated, as promised, to smaller servers this week. 1 box is already empty, 1 more to go.

Things are turning around, site should FINALLY be out this week some time and other updates regarding plans.

  90. 090   •   Vitalogy Says:

Just my final words about ThePirateBox: I got a full refund today but only after I filled a complaint with Google Checkout. Google refunded me because the seller never replied to my emails nor Google’s emails.

I’m now with Fastsh.it. I’m tempted to post a positive review about them but I will not. Simply because the day I posted a review about The PirateBox is the day I started to get serious problems. :-p

  91. 091   •   Neostar Says:

ThePirateBox wasn’t that bad but I think the reseller account they had must have had a cost increase which made it impossible to keep running the business using that company. It’s likely they wanted to move to another one but there was no way to migrate the users account, so closing and doing some research was the only way.

  92. 092   •   KC Says:

agree, privatebox ain’t bad, very fast, besides it can be lag from time to time, need click the links for a few times.

I’ve opened two accounts: one at BioHost and one at yourseedbox.com.

Yourseedbox.com (6.50 EUR + VAT + 2.50 EUR for Paypal fees, for 5 torrents and 20 GB hard disk) is decent. Good torrent download/upload speed, and good download speed from the http://FTP. The only problem is that the web interface is insanely slow — 30 seconds, needed for any action (add a torrent, start a torrent, stop a torrent, delete, etc.)
Overall, pretty good for the price.

    BioHost sucks.
($8 for 2 GB hard disk, unlimited torrent number)
    Saturday May 16th: I order.
Tuesday May 19th: No answer, I open a support ticket.
Saturday May 23th: I get my account information.
I notice they credited me with 1 GB instead of 2 GB. They fix it after a few hours.
Unfortunately, now the web interface is down, so I can’t do anything.

Needless to say, unless there’s a huge change, I will stay with Yourseedbox.

There support has gone from “not too good” to “very worse service ever” in the last month. New orders can take up to a month to be delivered, existing orders can’t get support within hours, sometimes days and the only 2 answers you get are “I will look now” and then some unspecified time later “it works” without any explanation, refund or whatever.

Even a renewal (like, asking for a custom paypal-request since not all renewals are listed on site) takes day to complete; how bad they don’t wanna make money??

  106. 0106   •   glee Says:

yep, i had a slice on outsystem and it was a real hassle getting any sort of response from
their “support” people. first i got the runaround on when i could expect my account to be setup, finally they just stopped replying to my emails asking what was going on. the only thing they appeared to respond quickly to is when you file a dispute with paypal. suddenly they were all over themselves in getting it setup… it worked for a while, speeds were… ok, but about 15 days into my month, the seedbox disappeared/went down. no replies from support as to what happened or when i could expect a resumption of service or whether they were going to offer me a slice on a different box to make up for the issue.
absolutely horrible service, i can’t recommend them in any capacity whatsoever.

  107. 0107   •   Visitor Says:

@GLEE: funny you mention the 15-day working period. This has happened to multiple machines that were based/resold from outsystem. Every 12 to 16 days, they would just die (as in, lose all connectivity while kernel was still up). And without credentials to the OVH-manager, you’re pretty much waiting for outsystem to respond.

Big topics on fst as well so, Sharky, please delete outsystem from your review.
