ScienceHD: A New Science Tracker - Open Signups Soon

April 24, 09 by sharky   13,753  views

Expect some fresh ideas & very big things from the talented dev team and staff behind the brand-new tracker ScienceHD.info. Aptly-named ScienceHD is devoted to mostly high-definition content for sci-fi TV, documentaries, technology, nature and science-related torrents. Officially launching on the 39th annual Earth Day (April 22nd, 2009) SciHD is set to open up for public signups as early as next Wednesday. This Gazelle beauty already has some interesting features; including a web based in-house IRC chat complete with IMDb & TV bots. Currently all torrents are hosted on 100mbit seedboxes, and SciHD is also home to a group of internal encoders providing exclusive content.

ScienceHD is built around a science theme with the content consisting of either Science, or Science Fiction related torrents. Examples include shows from The History Channel, National Geographic, The Science Channel, Discovery, Animal Planet, TLC, The Biography Channel, and Planet Green just to name a few. Also included will be many popular SciFi TV shows such as Lost, Heroes, and Stargate Atlantis. Additionally, the site features audio books and ebooks, which are science/learning related, such as Michio Kaku’s ‘Physics of the Impossible’ and books like ‘Physics for dummies’.

SciHD is also privy to very unique torrent uploading options (i.e. - make your torrent freeleech for all, and an ‘Exclusive’ torrent option whereby the torrent isn’t allowed outside of the tracker).

Probably the most distinct feature is the inclusion of a small, but growing internal team of encoders that will be providing exclusive content, consistently predominantly of HD caps from some of the aforementioned channels, though blu-rays rips are definitely slated for inclusion as well.

Another feature worth mentioning is the gazelle setup of the tracker (think What.cd). This facet, coupled with a propriety naming system, strives to create a synergy of fast, efficient searches that result in a golden standard for ease of content selection. For example, take the complete season 4 of the hit show "Lost". It would be listed as ‘SciFi TV - Lost.Season.4′. From that entry then, users can select their preferred resolution, format, video and audio containers. So rather than search through 5 or 6 different torrents for the desired format, users find the content they are looking for and the can browse the available formats, such as: DVD-R, 1080p/MKV/AAC, 720p/MKV/AC3, and 480p/AVI/AC3, etc.

Some ScienceHD Features…

  • • SciHD also has IMDb and TV.com bots for announcing releases in their IRC.
  • • Has their own SSL certificate, so SSL browsing (https:) will be available shortly.
  • • Category icons (think: BitMe/BitMeTV) for easy categorical browsing of similar torrents.
  • • Implementation of a triple redundant backup of their database and server daily so they’ll be able to restore the site with minimal data loss in the event where things go wrong.
  • • All new members start out with 10GB upload credit.
  • • All torrents can be rated by users on a scale of 1 - 5.
  • • ScienceHD IRC support channel can be found at irc.forpirates.net/SciHD-support.

As of now there’s just a 3,000 member limit. Once signups open, slots will fill up fast. Future plans for SciHD could include topsite access for the latest science scene releases. All that’s missing now is some good folks, who desire to be part of a team that’s not afraid to do things a bit different. Look for ScienceHD to open up registration publicly as soon as next Wednesday, April 29th. The signup URL (although we can’t confirm it) might be here:

Can you tell anything about their ratio-requirements? You say all the torrents are hosted on seedboxes, so it could be pretty hard to maintain a good ratio.

  9. 09   •   PARCO Says:

    hej

  10. 010   •   ScienceHD Staff Says:

    Hey Bertus,
Yup you are right all our torrents are hosted on seedboxes but all new users will get 10 gb’s at the moment so will not be very hard to keep a good ratio. We just opened the site in time will not be hard anymore to keep a good ratio.

    We are waiting you;)

Why are people saying, “Looks like I’m too late” ?! ScienceHD was never open to public signups, and is in fact still somewhat in their infancy stage. I was invited there, but most people don’t have a chance at getting in (yet) until at least next Wednesday.

  15. 015   •   Kareem Says:

Will be nice to see how they do. I currently use MVG. Ofcourse, not the same, but to have some of the same content.

Good luck to all at SHD!

Hmmmm, I’m intrigued. I do hope I am able to get in. And intelligent tracker will be nice, and will have a lot of content that is actually useful. Someone uploaded a pack of lectures about math principles, thats the first thing I’ve seen like that, downloaded it right away.

  22. 022   •   honey Says:

If you want to be a science tracker, you should leave the Science Fiction related torrents out. Science is non-fiction, real facts and figures. You shouldn’t merge these two different worlds. If you want to differentiate, do it good.

  36. 036   •   Charlie Says:

Sharky, I am lost for words. You are blindly offering invites to anyone for this new tracker…

Sharky, I am certain that through your involvement in the File Sharing scene that you are aware of the kind of people that you may attract, and the kind of unsavory characters that you may attract by blindly offering invites to people that you dont know. So, why the hell are you blindly offering invites to anyone for this new tracker? Let me ask you this. How many people from MPAA are you going to allow access to this new tracker?

Just a hunch Sharky, but I really think you really need to pull down your offer. I thought you were smarter than that.

  48. 048   •   kilo7855 Says:

Can someone give a link o the torrents I can’t get out of the news page for some reason.

  49. 049   •   Soulnova Says:

    Charlie,

I think your missing the point. The MPAA or anyone else can and will gain access to the sites. Its only a matter of time before they find an invite. Its not on Sharkey to keep things hidden its on you.

Sharkey has given many the ways to do so. VPN, SeedBox, etc.

Just as we are everywhere you also have to assume they are to. Even useing a public tracker you can take the same steps to stay safe and stay hidden.

    Just my thoughts.

    Mr. Nova

Is there any chance of being invited to this wonderful sight? TvTorrents doesn’t offer the most appealing selection of Sci-fi Science shows, and definitely not some of the more recent ones. The most they get in the “science” area is “Dirty Jobs” and “Stargate Universe”. Any help? The email is samuraiken (.at.) gmail dot com

Forgive me for asking, i just noticed that invites were closed permanently. Hopefully a mod will give me a present for my birthday next week (an invite, not a ban please!)
