Back in November we reported that the new Blu-Ray rips ([BRRip and BDRip](/2008/11/19/blu-ray-brrip-bdrip-two-new-xvid-hd-formats/ “Blu-Ray BRRip & BDRip - Two New XviD Formats “)) are in Hi-Def (HD). In fact, most of these are in 720×304 (or similar resolution), which indeed qualifies them as superior to regular 700 MB XviD codec releases - albeit they are still standard definition. However, there’s at least one P2P release group that produces XviD (*.avi) BRRips in true 720p HD resolution - beautiful picture quality and AC3 6-channel audio that will play back on some DivX/XviD compatible standalone DVD players, as well as game consoles such as the PS3 & XBOX360. For DVD playback, simply burn as a data disk - no converting, no transcoding.
Both IPTorrents.com and Pretome.net are home to these BRRips, and as luck would have it - for this weekend only (starting today July 3rd at 8:00 PM GMT and ending July 5th at midnight GMT), Pretome is having open signups.
“NPW” is an internal P2P group responsible for these next-generation XviDHD BRRips, currently being released at only a handful of private trackers. NPW has now joined Pretome.net in releasing their XviDHD rips onto their site. While NPW is not exactly new, we thought the time was right to introduce these releases since they’ve developed quite a following. A simple search for “NPW” - or better yet “XviDHD” at IPT or PTM will filter the releases.

It should be noted that groups such as DEViSE, PRoDJi, FLAWL3SS, SANTI, WHiiZz, BRZONE, BMB & D-Z0N3 are also indeed releasing BRRips; although the main difference is these are typically in 700×304 resolution (not HD, but 480p - standard def). NPW’s rips are about the same size, but done in 1280×544, 1280×688 or even 1280×720 - which also can be burned as a “data disk” and easily fit onto regular DVD media. Below is a comparison in resolution:
| DEViSE’s XviD BRRip | NPW’s XviDHD BRRip |

To quote NPW, “This is true 720p (1280×720) ripped from *.MKV BRRips/BDRips that are over 4 gigs. I love the new BR (xvid) rips that are out, but don’t like how they make them 720×400… So I have been making my own. I wanted the great sound and video that comes with BR, and keep the higher video size, so here is my version (which also can be played on XBOX 360 or PS3 in full 5.1 unlike mp4 versions that are only 2.0.) Check out the sample and decide for yourself!”

Finding a BRRip-compatible Standalone DVD Player
To find out which DVD/media players are currently on the market that will support DivXHD & XviDHD, we employed some simple filters from http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers. We added these filters (shown below) which generated 9 results (shown here) - many of which incorporate the Sigma EM8620L chipset.

DVD Players that “should” support XviDHD playback include:

Flawl3ss is releasing 720p BRRrips now also. And like always no RARs. Flawl3ss FTW.
WTF Says:
File Share Freak, you guys don’t know anything about quality.
WTF is the point of having 720p XviD? You can’t even watch it on stand-alone-players.
Quality = Transparency. Transparency to the source, make the encode as close to the source as possible without giving too much or too little bitrate.
XviD starves the bitrate, and voila you get craptacular video. Groups like FLAWL3SS are simply sharpening + starving the bitrate to death. Why are you guys wasting your time writing about shitty new make-believe tags.
I’d understand if your criticizing, but your just glorifying it. True-HD ? First we had nHD, then we had nuHD, are we going to have ObamaHD ?
Give us a moth3r fu.ck.ing break! And save us time, money and bandwidth by not exploiting these useless groups.
It’s basically 2 different types of encodes. Scene XviD or iNTERNAL HD. Anything inbetween is a complete waste.

User above me… Gay bitch. Shut your silly mouth up and if you don’t want something just leave it as it is. Users like you make the world an unsafe place. Your freedom ends at your tip of your nose if you don’t know that. Silly fool.

09: To be honest, if I want a HD rip of something, and watn to invest the 5 or so GB in order to get it, I’ll grab it knowing that its great quality. If I am low on data, and want something that is a little better than XviD, then yeah, I will go for one of these 720p XviD’s. I mean, end of the day, raw fact is that to the eye, they do look better than a plain XviD, yeah? I can vouch for that having seen these rips. They are great. Not spectacular, but a good alternative. Although you are claiming the groups work to be useless, answer this. Are people downloading and enjoying them? Theres your answer.

“WTF is the point of having 720p XviD? You can’t even watch it on stand-alone-players. ”
umm, I don’t know what kind of crappy gear you have, but a ton of stand alone stuff plays these, including my $50 dvd players and my $100 Wester Digital TV units. These quality rips are awesome and NPW rocks! btw, don’t mess with FSF if u don’t know “WTF” u are talking about douche bag!
No Says:
If you check the post you will see they found only 9 players that could support it. Standard Divx players will probably not support it because most are not able to output the resolution. I do have an upscaling divx player so I do not if I could burn and watch but I usually connect my pc to my tv anyway so….

i signed up at pretome and the confirmation email hasn’t arrived yet(it’s been almost a day now ) is this normal?
Taco Says:
Great. Pretome have open sign ups will do approximately nothing except help it go the same way as torrentleech did. It was a good site but think how many ‘untrustworthy’ users they will have let in.

Can someone please post what software is being use to bypass the protection on BR discs and make these rips? Thanks in advance.

Is There A Tutorial anywhere on how they do these?
bkabka Says:
There’s one thing that bothers me with these xvidHD-releases and it’s the low video bitrate.
Why not use higher bitrate=(larger file)? Does it require a faster CPU/GPU in the DVD?
Has anyone compared a 720p movie with avg. 2500kbps video bitrate with a SD movie with avg 2200 video bitrate? With a 32″ LCD I suspect the picture is just as good (or maybe better) with the SD movie, this beacuse a HD movie needs higher video bitrate because the image is larger.
Me Says:
To WTF:
You don’t know anything fucking retard. XviD at these bitrates ARE GOOD. Both XviD and x264 are both excellent quality at the bitrates we’re seeing here. It’s a FACT. I bet if you didn’t know what codec was used to make a rip you wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference, fucking dumbass.
bkabka:
You are wrong. The FACT is; there is just MORE detail and a crisper, sharper picture to encode when you’re using Bluray as a source. You can’t generate extra detail from a standard DVD (480p, 576p) when it doesn’t exist. And with bitrates as high as 3000k, well, most movies just don’t require that much to retain that “standard” definition detail.
C. Sanchz Says:
I see how “WTF” has had lots of complaints and been bad-mouthed a lot on it’s whole. I’d like to bump my head behind his, anyways. For us true purists, this non-scene re-encodes made by P2P groups, are worthless piece of junk. MPEG-4 ASP is a dying standard anyways, so the bare thought on starting printing 720p stuff using this codec, well, sounds rubbish. Especially since we’re talking just about the same bitrates as used by ordinary DVDRips. It’s insanity.
