STN: Goes From 10,000 Members to 170 on Dec. 1

November 25, 09 by sharky   9,043  views

Much to our chagrin, it appears that StoreThe.net may just be joining company with those two other trackers we mentioned in the first paragraph in our exclusive introduction of STN, after all. All accounts that have not upgraded as a tracker "sponsor" for €3 are scheduled to become disabled on December 1st, and permanently deleted a week thereafter. Here was a promising, fast-growing tracker that had as many as 10,000 members, soon to be transformed into a ghost town in the span of just two short months.

While pay2leech and even pay2invite are not new concepts for trackers looking to generate revenue to cover operating expenses, it is certainly more deplorable when existing members are forced into it - with the only other viable alternative is being forcefully removed from the tracker.

Since the stunning announcement of a sponsorship-only (P2L) model on November 12th which rocked STN’s community - so far in two weeks, only 169 members have opted to stay aboard - a far cry from the targeted 1,700 sponsors.

The PM sent to all members, by Yocto on Nov. 12th:

To start, we’re going to give you all 14 days to think it all over and reflect on it. At the end of 14 days every user will be placed into the Trial Sponsor user class and from there you have 14 days to consider adopting a sponsorship slot.

Following this 14 days i.e. Trial expiry any accounts that have not adopted a sponsorship slot will be disabled.. and finally 7 days after this the accounts will be pruned permanently if the user has opted not to make a sponsorship adoption of Euro 3.

If we’re oversubscribed i.e. 3000 sponsorships, as mentioned, we’ll leave the subscription slots as-is. In other words no existing registered user will be refused an option to sponsor StN and be part of this unique ratio-free private community.

If we reach our target or over subscribe then the open registrations are closed for good or until such time as they fall below our target of 1700. We thereafter become, as many have requested, a closed private community, so the opportunity to be part of this unique ratio free tracker is LIMITED!

If on the other hand, we have less sponsors than the target 1700 ie open adoption slots we will allow invites and/or open signups to the Trial Sponsor class until we reach a total of 1700 sponsorship adoptions.

The objective is to maintain 1700 adoption slots and become a closed tight-knit community.

Oversubscribed?! It’s unlikely that any tracker would be able to coax one-third of their userbase over to a mandatory "pay or GTFO" subscription. The above "14 Day Trial" didn’t go over so well, as members immediately voiced their concerns in both IRC and in the Forums, for which all non-sponsors were then prematurely blocked access to just three days later (not 14), as well as from downloading torrents. Obviously not a great way to entice more members to cough up the Euros.

The PM sent to all members, by Yocto on Nov. 24th:

This message is for people that have not read the forums.

A few weeks ago STN went to a sponsorship only model, and unfortunately due to a few bad users, I’ve had to change plans and restrict everyones access to the system. This includes downloading, posting, and reading all the forums except for one.

This means in order to stay here at STN past DEC 1st and to use the site, you need to be a sponsor. We accept Paypal, and Moneybookers.

The sponsorship cost is E3.00 and is valid for six months.

You get access to everything on the site.

Additionally you do no need to seed. More information is available in the forums.

This was done for 2 primary reasons among many.

1st, to make all the users equal on the site and do away with donors, and different user classes.

2nd, to protect the users, the tracker, and myself (my personal assets).

I realize this may not be popular. However it is the direction of _this_ tracker and will be the way most trackers have to conduct themselves in the future to protect their users, and the owners.

You may not agree with this, and that is fine. It may go against your principles and that is fine as well.

You may think it is an attempt to profit from you, however I can never re-coup the costs involved in STN.

I would charge less then E3.00 but accepting smaller payments isn’t practical.

This topic is not open for discussion.

If you which to have a sponsorship spot at STN, but are unable to pay at this time, or have some other financial burden.

Please let me know, and I will park your account for 60 days. That will give you 60 days to find a way to sponsor STN. You will be unable to use your account during this period, and only be able to click on Become a Sponsor.

If you choose not to be a sponsor of STN, once your account is deleted, the only way to get back into STN in the future is to find someone with an Invite.

The site will not be open for public signups, nor will there be an INVITE channel.

Thank you

Yocto

So what happens to STN now? Supposing that within the next week, another 30 choose to convert their accounts over to sponsor - this is still just €600 total (Euros) to cover 6 entire months of expenses, or just €100 a month - far short of the required amount. STN claims their operating costs are currently €850 a month (1,700 sponsors x €3 / 6 months = €850/mo), and this figure is quite believable. With all those IRCd services, sceneaxx, seedboxes and site hosting costs - simply put, STN will not be able to survive.

And let’s be honest - pay2leech is everywhere. What’s the absolute first thing that staff will set up on a tracker? The donation button. Then there’s paying for upload credit, VIP status, removing H&Rs or evading ratio requirements - even invites aren’t for free on some of the most prestigious trackers. And so what? Not many complain for this is a voluntary action at the sole discretion of the individual. But as soon as a tracker makes it requisite for users to pay a fee to remain there, they simply won’t stay. Even though €3 for 6 months is rather infinitesimal, the fact that it’s demanded is what has everyone up in arms screaming STN is pay2leech. I’d suspect that even €1 would have had the exact same effect. Is the lesson learned that torrenters are a cheap bunch? Nope. But they’re chock-full of dignity, integrity & values.

This article isn’t intended to come across as STN-bashing. If anyone feels that €3 is a fair price, by all means stick with them. In some ways I sympathize with Yocto & STN for, if anything else, requiring a substantial amount of capital to keep the site going - and not receiving it. Far be it for me to tell any tracker how to run their financial affairs; this is not my business. But it appears as though the mob has spoken - not loudly, but by silently not paying.

Seedbox-ready Dedicated Servers - www.dedisales.com — starting at £30/mo.

Shopping for a seedbox provider? Why waste money on a VPS or shared "slice", when you can have the entire server all to yourself. Dedisales.com servers are ready-to-torrent & include Ubuntu desktop OS with your choice of rTorrent, uTorrent or TFlux as options on most plans. Plus, you'll get all the benefits of having a dedi with full admin access - great servers, great support + affordable.

My first reaction was hell no. But I am willing to keep an open mind and see how it works out. Lord knows I piss money away on far worse things like smokes, or beer.

But with Bitshock, ScL, and others at my finger tips STN better do make my whooping 3 bucks worth it.

As I already pay for a seed-box, proxy, and obviously an internet connection.

This is not good. STN was good, but now it’s a fail tracker. P2L sucks and I never thought that STN would go that way.

most of the torrents are dead now as there are no members - Modern Warfare 2 and Dragon Age both have 0 seeders! wtf they are only 2 weeks old!

STN will fail and there’s nothing that yocto can do about it. Sorry pal, but your tracker is going down. :)

As sharky has brought up this subject on P2L. I would like to ask a direct question to Yocto, if suppose I pay 3 euros for six months and continued for a year, would I get the scene axx somehow??

are any of you on the site as sponsor? if so you’d realize how ill-informed you all are (lol).. I never read anywhere that they said there had to be 1700 sponsors by Dec 1st, in fact on the forums there (if you could read em) you’d see they say it doesn’t matter if only 100 sponsors signup, they’re not shutting down. Yocto said it’s his hobby and he has to pay anyway so he doesn’t care, the sponsorship is to protect the users and him.

you’re all a bit to pre-emptive in declaring it a failure yet imo and Sharky seems to be sensationalizing things a lot too there was never 10000, something like 6400 of which about 200 at max were active anyway. Am sure StN crew would be chuckling at all this.

Only time will tell reveal it as success or failure, that’s the reality.

Yocto promised from the beginning that he was never going to force to donate, and he was never going to close open registrations.
Then he said that was going to give all members 15 days sponsor test, but after 3 days he kicked all the non paying members from the irc and the forums in a very bad way.
So a lot of members that maybe would sponsored (like me) now are disappointed and leaving.

tbh who gives a shite about STN?
Only a idiot would leach from a site that both “pays” uploaders and forces members to “donate” Think about it people, do you suppose MPAA/RIAA and the rest of them have any intrest in a tracker that is openly selling Pirated goods?
This site will no doubt be shut down soon. Why would you want your IP in thier database for the police to find?

  28. 028   •   preemptiveisgay Says:

LOL you stupid dumbass. You donated to this POS tracker because you were forced to? And now you’re trying to convince everyone it was a good idea. Part of what makes a torrent site a high-quality one is the number of peers. With <300 members, how the f*** many peers do you think there will be.

Yocto is a stupid noob, unless he does what I’d do with such a moronic plan - take the money and run.

  29. 029   •   dnthelpthem Says:

It’s not the IP it’s the tracker stats on upload/download history they use as evidence. There was post in the non-sponsor forum mentioning a some special sponsor user group-class that has hourly cron that deletes all the user history to protect users. dnt knw if it’s true but interesting if it is. never heard of any tracker going that far to protect users. any1 on private tracker is in same boat tho. :) but who cares, right?

  30. 030   •   vrouves Says:

A quote when he opened the tracker:
It’s up to you. We will never BEG for donations. If a site owner doesn’t have the funds to run a site, then he shouldn’t have started one. I love how sites say “This site is for you, if you don’t donate, it goes away”. I say, great, “You never asked me if I wanted a site”. So fuck them let them die off a slow miserable death. This site will exist with or without donations. It will only get better as time goes on. It would be nice if the costs of running the site (Seed-boxes, Hosting, Gigabit axx to sites) were covered, but it isn’t a big deal if it isn’t.
why care about this fail tracker?people stop giving him money cause then other trackers will force you to pay.

  31. 031   •   Dasher25000 Says:

Any body paying for this site would be responsible for the mushroom growth of such sites in future which would have only negative results like unwanted interest from Govt Agencies, tax departments etc. Also if sites like STN can be allowed to charge then who would object to TL, SCT, SCC, REVTT, GFT etc to go the same way in the near future.

Running a tracker was and is not a business and anybody trying to do so should not be allowed. Let the tracker world remain free and we should be prepared to defend this freedom at any cost.

  34. 034   •   lolz Says:

lol at everyone acting as though they actually have some power over how trackers run their shit. You guys really think they aren’t making thousands, or in some cases, tens of thousands of dollars every year? Seriously?

  35. 035   •   stupidfaggots Says:

anyone who is stupid enough to pay a pirate site doesn’t deserve any sympathy. let the stupid go the way Darwin always knew… to extinction..

  36. 036   •   Uninformed Says:

Most of you are so ill informed about all this and i would wager that most of all that are crying about this are the ones that just want to take take take and give shit back. You all crying over €3 whats the point of that and you all think you got the moral high ground dont ya, hehe well just to let you guys know none of you have the right to take the moral highground as you all torrent share illegal files etc… hmmm just as immoral eh. now principles well the second you share an illegal file you just thrown them out the window too.
Now I am betting the fact that Yocto has put a measily €3 price on sponsorship is that the fact that any agency that wants to try bring him or the users down will also have to pay the €3 in effect they have entered a contract with the owner of the site thus nulling any evidence they try to use as essentially they just doing what other users are doing Pay2leech just like ya all that donate anywhere probably not many here though as i said probably all the sad fucks that just wanna take from the sharing community and give nothing back

Why do people still think that forcing members to pay “membership’ including riaa/mpaa will make a lawsuit null and void by such organisations? this is their intellectual property which they have legal rights to…there is no legal safety net, for example, look what has happened to the so called big guns whom thought they were immune, the piratebay and now mininova and not to mention others like torrent outpost which got its plug pulled because a bussiness owner complained about their “illegal” activities on the isp’s forum..

  48. 048   •   ualltwats Says:

it’s hard to enforce T&C on tracker as no contract, so even if ur T&C state you can’t collect info & data 2 use against owner & users it’s not valid. if consideration paid then contract is binding. basic contract law. there’s no law against paying membership to club, it’s not content they pay for btw.. there are other legal things on the site, forums, games etc.. it’s only dl & ul of content that illegal. they need evidence to prosecute users u idiots.
@dnthelpthem. u r right they got hourly cron to anonymize all user stats & history. all u dicks on ratio base r screw if they get ur IP & data, only on ratio free with no seed req ie exempt fm HnR can they throw away stat/data as not need to manage system. It’s kewl setup 4 sure!
U all naive.. ScT & SCC run topsites, ScT makes >E3500 pm in donations, invites, top axx etc.. SCC makes >E3000 month. U think MPAA/RIAA are not interested in that more.
@preemptivisgay. DL speed is fast, main Q6600 seedbox has gigabit unmetered on day0 content, so 700MBxvid in 13mins on home dsl of it. There are plenty seeders, 21 on ModWar2!

STN doesnt need thousands of users. Wh oneeds the headache?

Memebers of STN have already discussed this and we have all agrred we will be happy to keep the site limited to just 300. That means we would need to pay 17.00 EURO each per year.

That would keep us a very small elite website and well off the radar of the MRAA and anyone else.

Why would they bother chasing such a small site of 300 when they can go after the bigger trackers!

We dont need members, we are happy with our size, the odd invite etc will be sent and we will grow slwly but in the short the numbers are fine.

All the latest content from all the big trackers, fantastic down times, no ip data stored. scene releases and no scene.

STN is a dream come true, but a dream for many that wont be an option very soon.

Soon STN will close its doors forever, and if your not in you may never get in.

And when The Copyright groups shut down the large trackers, you will all be begging for a STN account. 3.00 euro then will seem like a gift, but in all reality you wont get in, unless of course you know someone!

Good luck leeching and getting banned and donating hundreds to your exisitng sites whilst you can!

Then there’s paying for upload credit, VIP status, removing H&Rs or evading ratio requirements - even invites aren’t for free on some of the most prestigious trackers.”

STN was very stupid how they handled this, but you’re absolutely right that even the top trackers are P2L. I really don’t understand why they decided it was smart to kick people off instead of just encouraging people to get a VIP ala TL. They’d still have 10,000 members and be making the same amount of money.

  66. 066   •   dnthelpthem Says:

@chad b4 the lockout, there was some post saying that to protect all the users and owner there was some legal advice saying that each sponsor had to pay for themselves and no one could be on the tracker without paying otherwise the site usage contract couldn’t be enforced or binding as is the case of any free private tracker. I’m no lawyer, but they said it got something to do with ensuring t&c can be binding contract to ensure no data/info collected can be used against users or owners. I think that’s why they REALLY want every non-payer off. I agree so many ppl get worked up over p2l by confusing the vehicle with cargo. most ppl feel bittorrent p2p is synonymous with free but it just delivery method.. would ppl carry on this much if stn used ftp or ddl via http as delivery and had Euro 3 fee. Doubt it.

    hey… lol….

great, that guy just confirmed that yoctogone is not happy with 3 euro every six months lol, now he wants 17.00 a year lol, that’s 8.5 euros every six months lol, (per idiot thats a lot of money in yokkkto’s dreams lol)…

lol, you all who paid 3 euro should ask for a refund asap, and use other better tracker, there are many belive me, all the information it’s here at filesharefreak.

nah p2l isn’t everywhere, if you have a good connection or if you know what you’re doing then you’ll never have to donate or pay2leech… just if you really want to contribute with money to the site for some reason or because you’re an idiot and your ratio its near to put you in a warning or ban, lol.

    stn? failed!.. lol…

  73. 073   •   Ethos Says:

There’s no such thing as a FREE lunch!

We’ve all heard that saying, right? Well it’s true.

Since Yocto launched StN, no doubt like myself, you’ve all been watching how things are developing and had the thought “how is this site going to be able to survive for the long-term?”

To Yocto’s credit he has invested some serious hardware behind StN and despite his statement that he would never ask (beg) for donations, the reality is the sites operating costs have almost quadruled.

    STN Main Site/Tracker box.
Dual Processor Hex Core Opteron Processor (2427) with 6MB Cache and 12 Cores!
6x 2TB Hitatchi SATA hard drives.
    2x 76GB 15K RPM Seagate SAS Drives
    16GB Memory
Intel Server Gigabit NIC Dual Port
Connectivity is via 100mb/s VPN (temporarily on PRQ 30mb/s VPN until new 100mb/s VPN provider is found or PRQ fix issues)

    StN Seed Box
    Intel PCIE Server Gigabit NIC
    Q6600 Processor with 8GB RAM
    1x 160GB WD Hard Drive for OS/etc
    24x 1.5TB Samsung Hard Drives
4 of the 1.5TB drives are striped for a speed of 320MB/s
20 of the 1.5TB drives are in linear RAID approx 52MB/s

The whole system is capable of handling 1,000,000 torrents…. as well as self-seeding all torrents for 30 days.

In regards to Topsite access StN is currently using 1 gigabit (niche), 2x 100mb (general) and we’re waiting on 2 more to come online. Therefore, compared to many other 0Day private trackers StN does and will index and make available more scene releases too!

To its merit because of the hardware, connectivity and multiple topsite accesses StN does have some of the best pre-times and fastest dl speeds too. But you get what you pay for, don’t you?

As a result of these recent server-seedbox upgrades, etc.., StN currently has a base operating cost of Euro 850 per month for the above equipment.

How will StN survive for the long-term?

If last month only 38% of operating costs were covered, then it means Yocto is out of pocket approx Euro 500 for the month. Have you considered if this continues then something has to give, right? How can it survive?

In most cases one would think that the easy answer is simple, just open the site up to more users! More users = more donations, but the reality is a catch-22 in that more users means less resources per user (bandwidth/cpu) and for the operator more cost. It’s the basic principle of the “law of diminishing returns”.

Look at another ratio-free site like PTM with 20K users and half the operating costs of StN, and they struggle to get 50% of their operating costs through donations. So how is StN going to get 50% with only 6K users!

Now Yocto has availed all this for us, the StN community, and as a group we should all feel that it’s not fair that he personally has to pay for us all! What’s equitable about that?

If you’re anything like me, and have some sense of pride, I don’t want to be considered a free loader. I don’t want to live off the generosity of someone else, do you?

All I wish for is to pay my own way and contribute fairly.

But the reality of donation-based system seems to be that the few support the many and the many seem content to take advantage of that. But there’s nothing egalitarian about that imo. It actually means uncertainty in terms of the long-term survivability of a community.

Definition: Egalitarianism… derived from the French word égal, meaning “equal”.., is defined either as a doctrine that holds that all people should be treated as equals and have the same rights or as a social philosophy advocating the removal of economic inequalities among people.

The growing gap between rich and poor!

The psychology behind a ratio-based system is that one gets attached to their stats/ratios and has a vested self-interest in protecting what they have built. Therefore, users are more likely to donate and support the site.

But the reality is for the average user ie one without a seedbox it’s near impossible to build or maintain a good ratio even if they’re trying their best to seed everything they’ve ever snatched.

And typically on a ratio-based site these users have to donate to buy upload credits or remove downloads to essentially bring their ratios back in line with the rules or have a buffer.

For most even with a seedbox they have to automate the process, snatch stuff they themselves are not even interested in watching as quickly as possible so the leechers down the line build up their ratios for them. Now where’s the fun in that!

In the end, being part of any private tracker community costs.. whether you pay through seedbox rental.. and/or donations to a ratio-based tracker for the reasons aforementioned.

Additionally, the undeniable reality of ratio-based trackers, unless they have some IRC idle bonus like ScL, is the gap between rich and poor has and will continue to grow!

What’s attractive or fair about the growing gap between rich and poor?

This is why the average lower-bandwidth user is attracted to a ratio-less or ratio-free tracker.. it seems more egalitarian and less discriminatory. But the consensus seems to be that the psychology works in the opposite way to a ratio-based tracker in that the users are not as committed to the community, through self-interest protection of their ratios/stats.

After all on a ratio-free tracker the ratios & stats are meaningless. Therefore, the viability and survivability of ratio free trackers are questioned and the reality of donations or lack thereof seems to exacerbate the doubters.

In an attempt to offer some incentive to donors, like on ratio-based sites, the ratio-free operators fall back on offering donors special privileges or extra features… immunity from HnR, no dl slot restrictions etc..

Now wouldn’t it be nice if there could be a true egalitarian approach to a ratio-free tracker where everyone contributes equally and has a vested interest in ensuring the long-term survivability of a tracker where there is no gap between rich and poor, and no discrimination?

Where the few don’t support the many and each user contributes equally as a member of an extremely tight knit community. Wouldn’t that be a fairer way to go about it?

    The StN Egalitarian Ethos

Now although this has never been tried before, StN effective immediately is implementing an “Egalitarian Ethos” wherein each member can become an equal sponsor of StN. This is going to be implemented from the top down with no exceptions for the founder/s, staff to the regular user.

The plan is to offer a limited number of sponsorship slots with the potential for each member to adopt a single sponsorship. The more sponsors we have the cheaper it becomes for each sponsor!

The target we have in mind to start is 1700 sponsorship slots. This means that each sponsor only has to contribute Euro 3 for a 6 month period. (Euro 850 per month.. x 6 months divided by 1700 sponsors). This equals a total of Euro 0.50 per month!

Let’s face it you probably spend more than Euro 3 on a coffee and lunch! And who can’t afford Euro 3 for 6 month sponsorship of StN to ensure the survivability of this ratio-free tracker for the long-term. And best of all, it’s equitable and fair!

As these small amounts are considered micro-payments, we have decided to implement a minimum sponsorship of Euro 3 to avoid issues with paypal, and we will place no limitation on the initial round of sponsorships.

Edit: Example where duration of sponsorship was dependent on number of sponsors has been removed. See Privacy and concerns for sponsors link at bottom of thread for update.

So what do you get for being a sponsor? Well the concept behind this is an egalitarian ethos, so you get access to everything. There’s no discrimination based on feature sets belonging to different user classes! Every Sponsor gets…

    •Access to Requests

    •No dl slot restrictions

    •Upload ability

•And most importantly each sponsor gets to be part of a unique “ratio-free” private community.

    Now isn’t that egalitarian?

Of course, we’re going to still have some user classes but these are just descriptive and merely demonstrate who is a more active member, and to provide some incentive for everyone to continue to seed!

1.) Trial – a 14 day FREE trial sponsorship offered at open signup.
2.) Sponsor – a normal user class for anyone that adopts a sponsorship during the 14 day trial.
3.) Alumni = min. 15000 seed hours with min average of 4 seed hours per day. ie total seed hours divided by days they been member.*
4.) Alumni+ = min 30000 seed hours with min average of 8 hours per day.*

(*So if an average user has 6 seeds and seeding for 8 hrs a day, it’ll take them 1 year to get. And if they seed for 12hrs per day it’ll take them 7 months, and if they seed 24×7 it’ll take them 3 months. If you seed more torrents less time it will take and longer if you seed less torrents. There is no minimum number of seeded torrents as a requirement except for HnR rules and the rest is incentive based.

Also if a user’s average seed hours per day drops below the min all they need to do is seed for longer or 24×7 for the period required to get back or build buffer.)

    5.) Staff – self explanatory
    6.) Founder – self explanatory

As mentioned there are no feature set differences between these user classes everybody gets the same equal access to features. I.e. there is no discrimination or special treatment. The egalitarian ethos is the basis of this system.

Note: Existing donors see this thread.

So how’s this all going to be implemented?

Edit: following underlined text is not applicable see links at bottom of thread for changes.

To start, we’re going to give you all 14 days to think it all over and reflect on it. At the end of 14 days every user will be placed into the Trial Sponsor user class and from there you have 14 days to consider signing up.

Following this 14 days i.e. Trial expiry any accounts that have not adopted a sponsorship slot will be disabled.. and finally 7 days after this the accounts will be pruned permanently if the user has opted not to make a sponsorship adoption of Euro 3.

If we reach our target then the open registrations are closed for good or until such time as they fall below our target of 1700. We thereafter become, as many have requested, a closed private community, so the opportunity to be part of this unique ratio free tracker is LIMITED!

If on the other hand, we have less sponsors than the target 1700 ie open adoption slots we will allow invites and/or random open signups to the Trial Sponsor class until we reach a total of 1700 sponsorship adoptions.

The objective is to maintain 1700 adoption slots and become a closed tight-knit community.

    The dreaded dirty word, HnR!

Edit: Has been removed to reflect fine tuning of the conditions.

    An equal playing field.

This new egalitarian ethos is designed for one simple thing. To create a much fairer system in which each community member contributes equally to the cost of maintaining the group’s existence.

And where the few don’t support the many so as to exacerbate the distinctions between the rich and poor through differing rights, where no individual is above the needs of the group and where no discrimination is made between the members.

Now what is more egalitarian than a fair and equal system for the benefit of all!

    @ Ethos
I still have to wonder how many times this guy has to consult with his thesaurus just to come up with a feasible reply to anything any given member has a question about. I mean, come on, how many people use “exacerbate” in their day to day speech.

…just thought I would throw in a Merriam-Webster definition of the word here.

    Main Entry: ex·ac·er·bate
    Pronunciation: \ig-ˈzas-ər-ˌbāt\
    Function: transitive verb
    Inflected Form(s): ex·ac·er·bat·ed; ex·ac·er·bat·ing
: to cause (a disease or its symptoms) to become more severe
    —ex·ac·er·ba·tion \-ˌzas-ər-ˈbā-shən\ noun

    And from thesaurus.com:

    Main Entry: exacerbate
    Part of Speech: verb
    Definition: infuriate; make worse
    Synonyms:
add insult to injury, aggravate, annoy, egg on, embitter, enrage, envenom, exasperate, excite, fan the flames, feed the fire, go from bad to worse, heat up, heighten, hit on, increase, inflame, intensify, irritate, madden, provoke, push one’s button, rattle one’s cage, rub salt in a wound, vex, worsen
Notes: to aggravate is to make something worse, while to exacerbate is to increase something’s bitterness or harshness
    Antonyms:
    aid, calm, comfort, help, soothe

I prefer the term, “go from bad to worse” myself, which is what STN seems to be doing almost daily since their bold announcement to force members to pay or GTFO. I was, of course, one of those members that was shut up when I spoke out against this new “rule” STN has decided to invoke on their users. I do believe that this was the idea from the start, especially since their site stated from the beginning that freeleech would continue through 11-10-09, I believe, which “coincidentally” was the exact same day they conveniently changed their format to p2l. In my opinion that option was to get as many members there as humanly possible before they unleashed this little idea they had from the start.

At any rate, STN’s train is derailing…but being that there is not much cargo left, as it were. I don’t think it matters much to the torrenting world as a whole. There are bigger and better sites out there. Bon voyage, STN…

Ethics don’t come into play, there are no ethics involved when everyone involved is sharing copyright material. Either you are stealing it for free or you are stealing it by paying a few euros, it’s still stealing. Some see it as matter of principle and refuse to pay. Ok, then don’t pay. Fine. Some don’t mind paying a little to keep a site up that they like. Good, be a sponsor. In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter which way anyone chooses.
P2L isn’t popular, that’s obvious. I can’t see it becoming the norm either.

What I don’t get is people who are willing to plunk down much more $$ for a seedbox in a month than it would take to use STN ratio free for 2 or 3 years. An extra bill a month just to keep a good ratio to share/steal for free.

Good luck to STN. I hope they prove to be something well worthwhile for their sponsors. Good luck to to everyone not on STN, there are still great private free trackers out there. The internet is big enough for everyone to enjoy their own way.

If his members are willing to pay for a year half of the expenses then he’s left with 400$ to pay each month, it’s 4800$ for a year…now, how long do you think it will survive, think about it, the only way his site is staying alive is if the guy is rich enough and has 5000$ to throw away each year for his hobby, if it’s the case then it’s great for the few members left, if not then it’s just a big fail.

It aint gonna burden him that much. Have you not worked it out yet, considering all the kind offers of donating hardware and even paying costs to other fails. Now use your brain and work it out. It truly is his hobby, and you’re right on another point, gr8t for us lucky few hey!

All releases (except porn) are being archived to the archive slave that are older than 7 days. You can use the !search, and !request to retrieve them (kind like a reseed request).

Currently what is available are scene releases from 11-10 through current day minus 7 are available via !request also, 50TB of off-site archives are availble,

the only blessing for STN was getting uneducated dim-wits, like many of the commentors here, off the site and now keeping you out. the community is nice and mature there now.. and thank god the red-necks, dolts and opinionated selfish kiddies are gone.

Since Dec 1st some 50 more sponsors have come on board. Sharky was wrong on 3 counts. 1.) was never 10K users to start 2.) was way more than 170 on Dec 1st & 3.) ain’t no ghost town there now, still growing with new invite only sponsors ;-)

Yea, but the real problem is, how to be consistent when idiots are trying to find ways to abuse a system. A system that had no rules, and yet, I’m the bad guy.

For everything that I try to do, I get a shit load of negative feedback, complaints.
And a bunch of fucking people that can’t read.

The subject of the thread is “Temporary” for Christs sake.

But you know. I’ve had my fill. It’s been fun, and it’s been real. Just not real fun.

I’ve come to the conclusion. I don’t see eye to eye with the majority of people. The sense of entitlement that some people have is outstounding.

Additionally I am extremely tired of fighting with people, arguing, and trying to educate people.

So effective Dec 15th, I’m closing STN. I will process and give refunds.
No need to send me a pm with your transaction ID as I’m refunding everyones money including previous donors.

I’ll spend my time, my money, and my effort on something else that brings me enjoyment. Because taking abuse from the handful of ignorant, uneducated people here is consuming way to much of my time.”

The change has come. Need your input! - 12-16-2009 10:41 PM

Over the last 48 hours, I have been spending almost all of my time dedicated to STN, I have pulled together a group of users whom I feel are a voice of the commuity. To begin with I will let you all know where we stand.
Yocto is pulling back from the site and is just watching from the background, he will be around to guide me and point me in the right direction. As it stands STN has no funds at all. As you all know yocto was running this site as a hobby and not to generate revenue.
I can promise that if we meet our goals, the files will begin racing to the site by the new year, if we are unable to do so then we will require to shut down the tracker and close stn forever.

While I will never spend 1 cent of the trackers funds for my personal gains, or needs. But I must ask for help.
Currently to get the autobot back online sending files to the site we are short approx E250.00/month. This is where i need your input. We have come up with one of 2 solutions.

    1) Have everyone re-sponsor a E3.00 for 3 months of services.

    2) Have a straight up donation drive.

I have no funds to pay for all this myself, unfortnatly I am not wealthy or have a nice bankroll. So I am asking that if everyone could vote in the poll below and in 24hours i will close the poll and tally up the votes and we will go in the direction.
I also want to let you all know that we are exploring other sources of income aswell.
Thank you and remember have a safe and happy holiday season.

    PLEASE DISCUSS THIS HERE http://storethe.net/tsf_forums/showthread.php?tid=735

    -MCFace

***Also i want everyone to remember that I will refund every cent of the donations/sponsorships back if the site does not work out. ***

—Seems he wants us to donate again. None of the bots are uploading torrents they are all down. The past 2 days have only seen 3 torrnets added and those were from members. Alot of the members are pissed off about him asking for money again….

Info for the masses! PLEASE READ! Yesterday 10:51 PM

    A full explanaion for all.

I have recieved a few pm’s and a few irc chats with some great questions, and also calling me out. I have just now noticed that I have been focusing on IRC too much and not the entire community. I realize that i am a fan of IRC and subliminialy i am favoring the users and being more interactive with them. So here I stand in front of all the users and I will disclose any and all information you would like to know.

I will start with giving a proper explanation of what and where yocto is and whats happening. Yocto is gone. He has nothing to do with the site except maintain the TS software and the servers it is hosted on. The sponsorship money that was obtained by yocto has been put in place to cover the fees for the TS software, the VPS that STN website is running on, and the IRCD untill August of 2010. The remainder will go to cover the excessive charges on the !request bot that were charged from Dec1st untill the 11th (See * Below for more info).
Ethos has resigned as Co-founder, i will not say much as its not my place and we have not spoken, but he and yocto made a solid effort. But with new faces coming in he felt it was best to step down. Also currently on the staff page OCTO is labelled as the Co-Founder, I just want to clear this up, I have not made any additions to the co-founder title, there is a bug in the TS code that should be addressed in the latest update.(stated to beinstalled soon) OCTO will be a active staff member here at STN, as a Admin.
I will be looking and spending alot more time trying to be interactive in the forums. Answering your questions as they arrise.
Another small update, we have obtained scene axx and are ready to race files, we just are on the lookout for someone with scripting/coding experience. If anyone can help out please send a pm to myself or some other staff member.
I also wanted to take a second to thank all that have come forward with their support.
I will add whatever else I am missing as I remember.

    -MCface

*The request bot consisted of a archive on one of yoctos private server, and every file that was requested had to be xfered to the OVH seedbox [every xfer required the bandwidth]. That pus the rampid abuse by some members led to a massive bandwidth overage for the month, even with 15 days or so to go.

Hey kiddies, pay me to do nothing, lol…

MCFace is a poor idiot… if he don’t have any funds then why is he trying to run a tracker?, it is obvious that a site needs funds to start. lol…

Or in other words, now that yoctogone has zero credibility he left his boyfriend (or maybe is a clon) to ask the kiddies for more money…

I can’t belive it… hey kiddies ask these idiots for a refund now!, don’t give more money to these mofos.

    Oh yokkkto & MCFace… mo’ money mo’ problems… hahahah… lol…

  116. 0116   •   yoctothescammer Says:

Yocto the douche from STN & Yoctogon in Dublanc, Dominica was a scammer 4 sure. He scammed few donations up to Euro250 each for lifetime memberships (that’s ironic such a short lifetime but they got what they paid for, roflmao), sold topsite FTP access and took thousands of Euro in total from original donations and then stupid sponsors. Then used excuse to close it when bills were due on 15th according to insiders.

Funny how he was offering to donate all hardware equip to ScT and other fails but abandoned his own users without hesitation, pulled STN topsite axx (from his own topsite btw - cost him nothing), shutdown racers/autobots and handed over the crippled tracker to his new patsy MCFace. Refund from Yoctogone…. not a chance!

Anyone who says “No lies, ever, PERIOD!” is a clearly a con-artist, liar and scammer, PERIOD!

  117. 0117   •   abs0lut3 Says:

why does it has SCC logo and sign on the login page now?

  118. 0118   •   hijacked Says:

CNAME lookup on STN resolves to SCC. So either hijacked or Yocto jerking the users/staff around. What a joke! HAHA

  119. 0119   •   McArty Says:

    Now its showing:

It would appear someone hacked/accessed and changed the domain settings as well as other aspects of STN.
I am back in control of the domain now.
I am trying to gain access to the machine, etc. I will post more when I have time or know more.
    Yocto

  120. 0120   •   idntbuyit Says:

I don’t buy it.. Enom his domain registrar has it’s own dynamic DNS management, so he saying that both the Enom DNS Manager was hacked/accessed and the CNAME changed to SCC and the server itself was also hacked with system config files accessed and he can’t get SSH root access on his own machine too. Cough, cough! One or the other I can believe but both? this guy claimed to be an expert on Data Center design/management too so even an average sysop has things on servers locked down like sshd root access, iptables to allow only their VPN ips, and IP blocking on failed logins on hack attempts.

Also it doesn’t take 3-4 days to get his “friend” at a DC in NL to get a KVM on there get access to the box and get system restored and backup reloaded if needed. Or to reload a backup on one of those dozen or so boxes he’s got not being used and re-point DNS to new IP

No, more likely Yocto did this himself as a excuse to kill STN once and for all and make it look like STN wasn’t closed by him, as the users there were getting tired of that dudes bullshit and lies. Funny how Yoctogon was completely unaffected by all this too, and the timing of it all.

His announcement just smells like bullshit to me, and too convenient for Yocto!

  121. 0121   •   Kukai Says:

STN is gone and Yocto is a con artist. He setup the fake hijack. He denied the new staff SSH access and left them vulnerable. He denied them everything. He changed the CNAME himself. He does not run his own Topsite as he claims.

He wanted STN to fail, he set it up this way himself. Why else would he offer Sct and ScR everything they needed to stay up but allow someone else to take over his own site and leave it bare bones, STN name only nothing more??

He set out to steal money. His claims to issue refunds to whomever asked were a ruse. Behind the scenes he was agitated by those seeking refunds and threatened to ban all from his servers that received one from him. Conveniently the next claim was that his money was being held and he couldn’t access it to issue refunds. That doesn’t bode well for the few members who gave €100 or more in donations. Slim to nil odds of seeing a single € from him.

This is all Yocto. Ethos realised what was happening and bowed out of the site before the poo started to smell. The new admin was simply an unaware pawn in Yocto’s scheme. Yocto became desperate when the new admin began to show a hint of promise. Fear the site may actually succeed under new command left him hastily seeking an immediate demise of STN and his getaway with sponsor monies.

Rot in hell Yocto. I know you read these forums hiding under another alias like you do on so many trackers.
