2009 in Review - 50% of New Trackers Disappear in a Year

For those of you who are considering the idea of starting up a private tracker, be prepared for failure: At least 50% of all new private trackers die within their first year of operation. Likely the statistics below won’t come as much of a surprise - as the Internet becomes oversaturated with trackers, there’s simply not a lot of room left for new sites. Just look at animatoonic and comic-releech - two ‘niche’ trackers with a great future that we didn’t expect to perish in their first year, but did anyhow. We’ve come up with a list of 300+ private trackers that launched in 2009, of which only 179 are still online today.

2009 Tracker Stats:

How many new private trackers started up in 2009? It’s impossible to pinpoint exactly how many new trackers came online in 2009, but we did our best effort to include them all. One thing that can be said; it’s not easy for new trackers to “make it”. Out of 307 new trackers we counted (surely there were more) that started up in 2009, just 179 of them are still around (a 58% success rate). This includes late-year startups that are still online.

First Six Months of 2009: Out of 195 trackers that started up in the first six months of the year, less than 50% are still alive today. Figuring that domains can only be purchased for a minimum of one year, it would be safe to say that site hosting costs are the major culprit for the shutdowns.

January-April 2009 Trackers: The stats get worse for sites that started up in the first four months of the year - only 46% are still online (59 of 128).

Private Tracker Growth Declining?: While the popularity of torrenting through private trackers is at an all-time high, statistics suggest that there are fewer new private trackers being started up. From what our stats provide, only 112 new trackers have come online since July (in contrast to 195 for the first half of this year). However, this doesn’t include most “December trackers” thus the stats are slightly askew.

If you were to look at the list you will see many a site has closed only to be restarted under a slightly new name and them in know also have the know as to which trackers do this time and time again.
Some are setup to get as much in donations as is possable and then close down only to restart on the same servers as a new site and start all over again.

Also many other start up not knowing what a tracker is or even now how to set one up and use any old source they can find and then help in just setting it up ???
If you cant even set one up how the hell are they going to be able to run one when they get there first problems…..

Also a lot of these new sites dont even belive in having a community spirt most of the time they will rape every other site there a member of and rename retag torrents to there own site to make there few users think they are somhow better then else where.
When in fact they are just using other people trackers and sources to feather there own pockets….and hell to any tracker that tries to stop them from doing it….

Many a new site owner will find releases that are seen as being very wanted else where and just take these other sites releases as there own….not a good way to operate and just causes problems with sites and users in the end.

The only site that last are thoes that offer somin extra to a user or take the time and energy to invest in there users…Thoes that fail were bound to fail as they are only in it for the cash 99% of the time.

Out of this list it would be good to know how many just closed for no real reason and how many closed due to Mp@@ and other forces…

Ur so right if people are coming into the tracker owner just to make a quick buck then I would forget it, u would be better off beggin on the streets, owning a tracker can be costly bussiness, it aint just the hosting prices you have to think about, there are seedboxes as well, I can see why some go the advertising route on site but personally I hate it, when ever I get one of them full page ads I just shut the page down, a quick way to lose alot of users.
