Seedbox providers are similar to torrent trackers: both come and go, and only the truly great ones are able to survive in an over-saturated market. After sifting through various FSF seedbox articles, we tagged at least 30 as “dead” providers (listed below) but also came up with 17 new ones (at least 8 of which could be considered trustworthy). Plus, we’ve found a provider that offers a 1 Gbit port (with 250 GB HDD space and unlimited torrents/bandwidth) for less than £50/mo.

New Seedbox Providers…

Provider: GGSHQ Seedboxes

BT Interface: rTorrent (ruTorrent 2.8 GUI)
Connection: 1 Gbit (no 100Mbit plans!).

About: GGSHQ Seedboxes is a new provider that offers “slices” on dedicated servers; something that users may be familiar with through Varsbox, Whatbox, FastSh.it & BigSB. The site isn’t yet complete but their prices are extremely competitive. $30 gets you 135 GB storage, unlimited bandwidth & unlimited torrents (not quite unlimited, you can only have 3 - 5 active torrents downloading simultaneously). This really isn’t much of an issue - after all, it’s a seedbox whereby torrents finish downloading extremely fast, especially so with GGSHQ since all seedboxes are on a shared 1Gbit connection.

*Setup Time: For those who are looking to have a seedbox set up instantly, then perhaps this isn’t for you (go to SeedboxHosting.com for this). In most cases GGSHQ requires all slots (slices) on the server(s) to be subscribed to before ordering the server. This is akin to a ‘queue’ system; once all slots are filled (ie 5/5 users), the server will then be configured and those who pre-ordered will then be notified. The good news here is that you don’t have to pay first, just jump on the list and wait to be contacted.

:** Newly-formed SeedboxServers offers VPS seedboxes, each comes with it’s own dedicated IP and root/SSH access - users can check their available RAM, SWAP and HDD space, etc. Definitely this is a provider to watch out for, not some kid with a couple of Kimsufi’s. Their “standard box” (recommended) comes with 50 GB storage and unlimited everything for 15 Euros.

About: Not primarily known as a seedbox provider, Switchlink is known more for their VPS’s, dedi’s, hosting and colocation services. There’s just two seedbox plans to choose from here (£25 & £45, with 50 GB & 100 GB storage, respectively). Seedboxes aside, this provider is potentially a good choice for those who are looking to host a torrent tracker (since, if they’re renting torrent-ready servers, it’s safe to assume that trackers are also allowed on their regular VPS product line). This in itself is worth checking out - but just to be on the safe side, use a prepaid credit card when ordering.

:** Certainly Zazeen is one of the oddest “seedbox” sites in this review, but not one to be overlooked. Their service is aptly-named an “Online PC” which consists of Ubuntu Desktop with a huge array of Ubuntu-supported software pre bundled and ready-to-go. Users connect remotely to their desktop (server) via NX client and control all aspects of the environment (which obviously includes BitTorrent clients). Also offers a 30-day money back guarantee if you’re not satisfied; and even an anonymous method for purchasing (although processing will be slower).

**Canadian Users

:** One really cool feature is that users (from Canada only) can send in their own empty harddrive to the company, and Zazeen will encrypt the entire contents of their “online PC” and put it onto the drive, and then ship it back via FedEx (for under $30). Why would anyone do this?

We can think of one scenario

: Grab their Ultimate plan (for $70, comes with 1 TB storage) and fill it to the brim with apps, games, music & movies. Then when it’s completely satiated with warez, ship them an external 1 TB drive and have everything sent back to you (totally encrypted - just in case those Mounties on horseback intercept it). Back home, plug it in locally, and start seeding! (or just start enjoying what you downloaded remotely). Could save you a fortune on over-priced Canadian bandwidth which is normally throttled and/or capped by our retarded ISPs Bell, Shaw and Rogers. Zazeen is proof that there’s more than one way to stick it to the MAFIAA and your ISP at the same time.

About: It’s heartbreaking to see providers that offer unmetered bandwidth on 100 Mbit connections, yet put metered restrictions on their superior 1 Gbit-ported seedboxes. This is like saying, “We’ll loan you a Ferrari for a month, but you only get 1/4 tank of gas”. While Torrent-Remote isn’t alone in doing this, it still sucks. Getting back ontopic, you’ll need deep pockets and shell out at least €40 (yes, that’s Euros) for a server with unlimited everything (on 100 Mbit), which includes a hefty 450 GB drive. For those who are skeptical, they offer a 1-hour “test” account which can be requested here. More info about overall services and feedback can be found in their forums section.

About: Brand-new Seedbox4u.com only launched in Jan. 2010 but already has some decent feedback. Here’s a provider that offers mid-range & high-end uTorrent packages (15 Euro gets you 250 GB storage and unlimited torrents/bandwidth). All plans come with VNC access, no setup fees, and a low user-per-server ratio.

About: RapidSpeeds.com is an OVH reseller with a very impressive list of dedicated servers, and all come with outstanding torrent options (see image below). RapidSpeeds recently removed all ’shared’ seedbox options in favor of offering JUST regular OVH dedicated servers, including the Kimsufi line. Thus, you’re not sharing the server with anyone else - it’s all yours!

Unknown, Untested Seedbox Providers…

These are ones to watch out for (in a negative way). Seedbox Providers listed below should not be automatically assumed as reputable, reliable suppliers. There are scammers out there - caveat emptor. It’s recommended that you get some feedback first or contact the site to find out more info. We’ve attempted to outline potential problems & risks with each. Tread carefully into these seedbox waters…

CoreHostings.com — Domain was registered exactly two years ago, yet has an Alexa Rank of “no rank” which clearly indicates zero visitors to the site - not a good sign. That, and there’s no direct “contact info” aside from submitting a ticket through ’support’ - which we strongly suggest you do before even contemplating on purchasing a seedbox here.

Diskoverload.com — Flashy site, but nothing available to purchase. Lots of options to contact this one (IRC & forums) but it’s as dead as a doornail. Project seems abandoned.

Seedlightning.info — Domain was registered very recently (on Jan. 5th, 2010) - but there’s very little info available about the services (BT client, server specs, etc - all unknown). This one looks extremely amateurish; anyone can find a free “web hosting” Joomla/Wordpress template and set it up in under 30 minutes - which is exactly how this one appears. Feel like striking up a PayPal dispute out of sheer boredom? Then sign up! Some people get their rocks off on this kinda kinky stuff. This one’s probably a sure-shot to getting screwed - butt-plug not included.

Seedmachines.co.cc — Uses free hosting from co.cc - shouldn’t that be enough to avoid? We’d hope so.

www.seedb0x.com — Domain registered on July 7th, 2009. Had some decent activity but not much over the past three months. At least they outright mention that no servers are currently available. Perhaps this one’s dead or dying…

Bittraffic.com — Feeling generous? Then why not shell out $55 a month for just 50 GB storage?! Scam or not, who would possibly fall for this exorbitantly overpriced box.

Seedboxsales.co.uk — untested, no feedback.

Seedbox.cc — A derivative of seedbox.fr, this will only lead to disappointment.

Santrex.net — Is now offering rTorrent/ruTorrent on all seedboxes. Users are able to view their remaining HDD space and restart rTorrent/ruTorrent through their own box (in a web browser) without having to submit a help ticket. Amazing feature!

Fiberslice.com — This one’s beginning to grow, and recently bought out wewillhostit.com and a few other seedbox / hosting providers. Not much here yet for the average torrenter, but may be suitable for hosting a tracker. Check back; we’ve been told that their services will be more “torrent-friendly” very soon.

Nocster.net & ayksolutions.com — Not seedbox providers, but sells servers - and more importantly, both are currently running a ”1-month for $1” promotion. Tech-savvy seedbox DIYers, use your imagination here…

Ok… I warn everyone… and don’t tell yourself later you weren’t told. AVOID SEEDMACHINE!!!!!!! This is run by a guy called HUSKII! And He is a scamster. He has fleeced more than two hundred Euros from me and my friend. Firstly by not installing our seedbox for more than 17 days while promising to do it in 24-72 hours (the promise has been removed from the website since then) and then when we got our seedbox from another provider and complained to paypal… he whined that he had a kid and all that and he would return our money the moment he got customers for the seedbox. We took back the complaint out of faith… but two months down the line he has disappeared. How can someone who has absolutely no monetary back up and no wherewithal to fulfill or compensate business promises be trusted. If anyone requires our MSN conversation with SEEDMACINE/HUSKII leave a message here with your email id and we will provide that. But please don’t go with this provider because he will only be encouraged and believe that he can pull off this scam anytime he wants to. I had the pleasure to check out two of their servers one came with a 100mbit/s and the other one with a 1Gbit/s connection. The 100mbit/s worked smooth but hell I got excited when i saw the Gbit/s slut pumping out the bytes :). The Server was setup within 1hr, it was perfect. I see people like BIO have said such things like “Avoid rapidseeds (forcing u into a 3 month contract).Later”.

There is a reason for this, the company we get them from only accept 3 month contracts, so we cannot offer a month to month option. It has been made 3 months in advance because of people abusing the servers after 1 month of usage, when i mean abusing i mean spamming from them etc, which is not tolerated. With the prices as they are, it will get rid of these spammers and bring in only dedicated and honest customers.

I ordered a dedicated server from http://rapidpeer.com 2 days ago(setup was about 2 hours). After a few torrents(speed was good) the torrents wouldn’t down or upload but the same ones were downloading on my desktop. Before I rented it I read on their website “we will glady give you a full refund. ” I asked 4 a refund today and as soon as I did rapidpeer changed their website today excluding the above quote. Here’s a cached copy of rapidpeer when they were giving refunds.

just saying that i’ve got my seedbox - it’s all good and does what i expected… BUT i’m only getting about 7 megabytes a second with my download - like i know it’s not slow, but i though it was 100mbps…

i contacted the support about this and i got a response in a couple of hours, they said that it’s possible that the seeders are maxed out or that another person on the “node” is using 3 megabytes per second

i still guess it’s good value for money - lets see how it all goes

Jake when you say 7megabytes that is 70mbps so ur getting a good speed if that is a shared box m8. I have been with some companys on shared boxes and never got more than 4mB/s / 40mbps if you want 100mb/s then you need to either go to a seller that only puts a few people on a box or get a dedi box which will cost a bit more.

I am now with one of the untested servers above ( seedboxsales.co.uk ) have to admit there servers are good, bought an stmini ( cheap kimi ) with £5 off first month deal. Loved the speeds hitting around 9-10MB/s constantly. Bought another server with them ( PRSTORAGE 6TB SERVER ) and its brilliant setup times as described and support is second to none with support tickets being answered within minutes normally

Since them i have used 2 companies ( dedisales.com and seedboxsales.co.uk )

they are both in comparison to each other same sort of prices, i found that seedboxsales.co.uk had fast setup times ( in my experience ) and their support is a lot fast within an hour wereas dedisales took 24 hours +

Seedboxsales.co.uk will also help out if necessary ( using teamviewer or support via msn live support or email ).

I only used shared plans with both these server providers but managed to hit an average of 8MB/s on both of them!

added bonus that I could do SSH Tunneling. This is great! For those
of you who don’t know what that is. SSH Tunneling allows all TCP
traffic to go through SSH and out the other end. So basicly I can
browse the internet from my computer, all of the HTTP traffic will
go through my GGSHQ server (encrypted). I will appear that I am
browsing the internet from the server. This is really good for some
of those private torrent sites where their tracker won’t let the
seedbox connect because the IP address never authenticated on the
website. Not to mention the fact that some ISP’s monitor your
traffic but they won’t know now because its encrypted.

with anyone. The manager of the company told me he would just go to

Avoid Seedbox.me as well. Although they set-up my seedbox within 24
hours, and the initial FTP speed was good (I used HTTP with Flashget
actually), after a week or so, the transfer speed back to my PC
peaked at 30KBps when I am getting a constant 400KBps with other
seedboxes.

On top of that, once you paused your files longer than a certain
amount of time (1 hour I think), you cannot resume it and has to
download the file all the way from the beginning.

Thirdly, when I opened a ticket about it, they just say it is a
security feature and go use FTP (yes, that’s exactly their tone -
not very friendly, is it?).

When that didn’t work and I sent them another mail, they just
ignored it.

And now I just realized that some of the torrent files that I have
uploaded to my seedbox and have not started, because my seedbox is
full, because I can’t get a good enough speed to bring the files
back to my PC, are being DELETED automatically by them. I delete my
original torrent files once I have uploaded them to a seedbox, and
now I have no idea which they have deleted and no way to get back
those torrent files. I think there is a law against that.

So the next time you want to get a seedbox, stay away from
Seedbox.me.

My experience with Obtrix is good. They did not limit my seedbox
size for some reasons and the speed is decent.

My best experience is with BR Hosting. They offered me uTorrent
instead of TorrentFlux for USD10 a month, which makes my life really
simple because I can queue my downloads and they will start
automatically once the last one is done, until my seedbox is full.
Then, the FTP/HTTP transfer back to my PC is extremely stable and I
had no problem bringing my files back to my PC at all. I often
switch seedbox providers after a month, but I was so satisfied with
BR Hosting that I stayed with them until they shut down their
service. Yes, what a shame. I would gladly pay USD 15 for a 10GB
seedbox if they were offered by BR Hosting.

big NO NO!..

Went on the Bronze 1 Gbps connection, what i received what a piece
of trash that couldnt even d/l speeds greater then 2Mbpsnot even a
burst of speed.. upload speeds were even worse didnt even reach
1Mbps, were sitting on about 300kb on established elite trackers on
fresh torrents will plenty of leechers..

they must be puttin 20 people to a box, its a absolute joke..

i sent 2 emails asking for a refund, even attached the speed graphs
of the torrents, no surprise, they DIDNT RESPONSE..

opened a paypal dispute, on the 2nd day, waited for paypals
response, which they said they couldnt do anything about the service
of a non physical item so i lost 25usd..

tried to log back in to see if my account was still active, no
surprise once again, couldnt log back in.. would of thought they
would atleast honour the 25 days or so i had left on the server..

VERY POOR SPEEDS, GOT SCAMMED.. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

A week ago I would have said “stay clear of that site- their service
and support is horrible” but now all I can say is that you should
add them to your list of “Dead Seedbox Providers”. None of their
sites works anymore, so I guess they went out of business, because I
don’t have any service since August 30th and all support tickets and
emails went unanswered. And I had paid for a year in advance….

Don’t go to Feral Hosting, they are not serious! They close my
seedbox whereas i’ve paid it and told me they don’t receive the
paiment, but on my bank account it was out! When i open a ticket a
send a mail i’ve not any answer, so i’ve paid for one month but i’ve
nothing now!  
 Don’t go with Feral Hosting, the service is so poor and you will
regret it a lot! They don’t communicate with customers and ignore
the support’s tickets!  
 Feral Hosting are scammers!
