The dev team at utorrent.com have announced the release of a final 2.0 version of
uTorrent today, marking this the first stable (non-beta, non-RC) release
since development on uTorrent v2.0 began back in August. The world’s
most popular BitTorrent client has undergone quite a few significant
changes; including auto-uTP & UDP tracker support, an enhanced setup
guide, transfer cap settings, bandwidth management and even a new shiny
skin.

Improved ‘Setup Guide’
For those who are already familiar with uTorrent’s Speed Guide
(uTorrent > Preferences > Speed Guide), in version 2.0 it’s now called the “*Setup
* Guide
”. It’s been overhauled to make it much easier to use and also includes a built-in speed test. More presets were added and it automatically scales settings for high-upload connections, as well as implementing automatic port mapping by default.

uTP / UDP Settings = Enabled
Previous beta and RC versions of uTorrent 2.0 already have this set on by default, but for users of the previous final v1.8.5 would (and still do) need to manually enable uTP/UDP tracker support. In uTorrent 2.0, both TCP/uTP (incoming & outgoing) connections are already enabled - whereby the bt.transp_disposition value is now automatically set to an optimal “15”. More info about these protocols & their values can be found at this link.

Transfer Cap Settings
uTorrent 2.0 has a new “Transfer Cap” tab in Preferences. This excerpt from uTorrent’s forums explains it, “the transfer cap settings were added in response to various users who have ISP-mandated caps on how much data they can download/upload in a month. Now you can track your usage in MB (with a handy graph to visualize it) and even configure µTorrent to stop torrenting once the limits are exceeded. Currently, you can configure the time interval, the data cap and whether it should stop based on only download, upload, or both combined.”

Also included is the new feature “Enable Bandwidth Management” as found in Preferences > BitTorrent (this won’t override the Transfer Cap settings). For those who want to view their Transfer Cap as a graph, click on the Speed tab in the main uTorrent interface and select “Transfer Cap” from the dropdown menu:

Is uTorrent 2.0 An Allowable BT Client?
While this point is moot on public torrents, most private trackers have already whitelisted uTorrent 2.0 as an allowable BT client. However, not all have - BitMe.org, BitMeTV, and PianoSheets.org are three holdouts that don’t (yet) support this version. Play it safe; it’s best to check first with your private trackers before deciding to upgrade or not. The following list is just some of trackers that allow uTorrent 2.0 (build 17920).
- BaconBits
- DeepBassNine
- DigitalHive
- GFT
- IPTorrents
- JPopsuki
- KWS
- Libble
- Neptoons
- Packme.in
- PassThePopcorn
- Pedro’s
- RevolutionTT
- SCC
- SceneSound
- ShareTheRemote
- SqN
- TorrentLeech
- VIPMusic
- Waffles
- What.cd
- …and many others.
NOTES: Seedbox users might not want to upgrade to the new utorrent.exe (v2) just yet, as there are reportedly some problems with Wine + WebUI.
SHARPiE Says:
WOW, SOUNDS GREAT… UPDATING NOW…
lun Says:
Eh, with μTorrent ‘final’ usually means ‘public beta’. I’ll update when it hits the auto updater.
butters Says:
yo sharky is utorrent 2.0 allowable on demonoid? it’s not listed
MJ Says:
It’s still CRAP !!!!!
It’s still doesn’t show IPs in a right way. ( if it’s .com / .net it shows as US flag )
For example if you see IP from Pakistan, Egypt, Venezuela (.pk / .eg / .ve) the flag is not recognised ? why ??!
No improvement on IP filter or what ?
Bran Says:
Since Comcast only cares about download cap (250gig/month) and not upload cap, I wish uTorrent would add the ability to stop downloads, but remain uploading once download transfer has reached my desired stopping point. Full out stopping torrents up and down is of no use to me as a Comcast user.
That’s an oversight.

Utorrent 2.0 SUCKS you cant surf. while SEEDING or DOWNLOADING

weedaddicted Says:
uTorrent 2.0 is banned from BCG too
Fuckface. Says:
TTi.nu allow it.
e Says:
too slow
Mochan Says:
uTorrent 2.0 is horrible. It can’t download properly. I get a torrent of TokyoTosho and download it at 1.7mbps on uTorrent 1.8.5. On 2.0 I only get 3kb/s. WTF is that?
Reyk Says:
its terrible. I used utorrent 2.0 (port checked = open, allowed through firewall , doublechecked) and I got 40 kb/s with 80 seeds and 65 peers(total seeds 2000 peers 11000) thats way to slow to connect to peers and crap download n upload speeds. So i scrounged the internet fo 1.8.5 again and altho it does not recognize as many seeds/peers(1600 seeds 9000 peers) i ge 400kb/sec with only 40 seeds and 45 peers, still connecting to more for better dl/up but 1.8.5 is much better. BTW uTP the thing that limits bandwith on uploads so netowkrs arent raped, made the download on 2.0 40 kb/s and without it 45 kb/s, so 2.0 is slow by default ;( il stick to 1.8.5 and Yocto it is free u dumbshit
romagonn Says:
uTorrent 2.0 is really crap. uTP is total crap. If I wanted capped, slow speeds I would use a bad ISP, I don’t need my P2P client to cap me.
People are already saying that uTorrent 2.0 is the same for uTorrent as Windows Vista was for Windows. And they’re absolutely right. Except that uTorrent 2.0 sucks more than Windows Vista…

esm Says:
This sucks….you can’t surf while downloading
Someone Says:
Don’t bother updating…. Download speeds dropped to 1/3 the 1.8.5 levels. Went back to 1.8.5 without changing a single setting and download speeds went right back to normal. Tried tweaking 2.0 per multiple guides and nothing worked.
hitec16 Says:
Don’t download utorrent 2.0!!!!! it really sucks download speed goes down i don’t know wtf is this.
thenewme Says:
Having problems. Download working fine, then goes to 0. upload stays same most of the time, but that has gone down to 0 too. After shut down and restart of utorr it fixed d/l once or twice, but after that, no go.
Of course i tried all the tweaks. I guess i’ll go back to 1.8.5
(required) Says:
Just upgraded,
downloading at a massive 800+kbps, ie maxing out my connection, on good torrents.
Note - to get these downloads, uploading speed has to be set at 40kbps or above
So far liking it very much.
andy Says:
I wonder why it’s banned in so many trackers.
Maybe those stupid sysops should be banned too for banning this great version
Plus, if it operates slowly or WTH, that should be every user’s decision!
Only if it HARMS the private tracker (excess bandwidth usage etc.) it should be banned.
But I do have the impression many sysops ban uTorrent clients “just because” (and can’t even give a technically plausible explanation why)
(I would not be surprised. Intellect can only be found on 1 out of 50 of these…)
Will in OC Says:
utorrent 2.2 beta version is out now
