Whether it be on release blogs, warez forums, or anywhere else on the ‘net - it’s unanimous that RapidShare links are everywhere. Few can deny that RS continues to reign as king of the filehosters - but there’s some serious new competition aiming to dethrone this behemoth 1-click hoster. According to Alexa: just 12 months ago RapidShare was poised at the #10 spot among most-visited websites; RS has now slipped to #31 and continues to slide. Small potatoes? Not in the business of filehosters it isn’t, where mad dollars are at stake. One thing that is certain - you can bet that the RS team is sweating over these new startups below that are vying for a piece of the filehosting pie.
RapidShare’s decline in popularity doesn’t indicate a slowdown in the overall growth of filehosters - in fact, DDL trends are quite the contrary. The collection below is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all filehosters available; it’s merely a sample of just some of the newer ones out there.

brilliant article sharky :).
Having multiple excellent and competing file hosters is GREAT and essential to a healthy and always improving DDL scene and ecosystem.
Though it seems funny you merely mentioned many other big fish who are major RS contenders like MU out :S…they may not be new but they’re the biggest fish taking out that pie from RS :).
LOL Says:
movieshare.in and other crap hosts get a little writeup but popular hosts like MU, MS, etc, just get a link on the bottom of the article? ….ok
oh ok Says:
I have to say, megaupload is probably one of the best filehost right now. It usually caps out my connection(30mb down) and seems to offer unlimited downloads as a FREE user.
All with only a 45 second wait and a little captcha (which if you use jDownloader it doesn’t really matter anyway)
sbb Says:
rapid is going down since they give up paying dollars for rapidpoints. all other sites especially hotfile x7 upload.to and netload gives you real money not tricky rapid presents

+1 media fire. Impressed from the user account,..no waiting time, no captcha.. download speed faster than rapidshare and hotfile combined! decided to buy premium account and still have it.. loving it!
Nfld Says:
Mega upload is the best!!! Over 500k, no wait, no captcha with jdownloader
netload is also very good, but you have wait bw files
Baz Says:
Megaupload shits on all others right now.
abhi Says:
mediafire is the best
lolol Says:
So u watch TS sharky?
thisone Says:
only good hoster is netload right now!
all others either dont offer FTP/remote upload for free users (megaupload) or have no/shitty reward systems (mediafire, megaupload) or dont pay out (storage.to) or suspend accounts at random (hotfile)!
ninja Says:
Megaupload and Mediafire are the best. My personal preference is Megaupload because of the rewards system where it is incredibly easy to get premium. The reason more people dont use Mediafire is because there is no rewards system. Megaupload is the best file hoster for free and premium users that also offers a rewards system hands down.
dixon Says:
the best for free users are mediafire and megaupload. all else are dead slow unless you pay or waste time uploading for premium.
sunil Says:
mediafire is not even mentioned . it offers the best speeds for free users and there are a lot of mediafire links out there . more than crammit.in or movieshare links
Meh Says:
@thisone Fuck you for supporting profiting from piracy.
LOLZ Says:
What #2 said.
howdy-do Says:
Call me nutz, but the keyword here was ‘New’. Not MS, MU, MF, HF - if you havent already heard of those ones, then your in real trouble. You should put out smth on the best hosters though.
thisone Says:
@021*Meh:
“Profiting”? Really? You think I make thousands of dollars each month by uploading stuff?
It’s *barely* enough to pay for the VPN service I subscribe to and my root … it’s compensation for the time and effort spent searching, uploading and posting on several boards … if you really think I “profit” from this, you are mistaken!
WarezBot Says:
Hotfile is the main competition to rs .
now they are allowing Maximum file of size 2000 MB ( Upload and download ) for free users also ..
Jade Says:
@Thisone
Let’s do some cost comparing.
A VPN 7 dollars ( http://bit.ly/DE51m )
I run a torrent site, it’s expensive, let me explain how expensive.
Server 1, used to race pres. 200 dollars ( http://bit.ly/atK3kM )
Server 2, used for retention 540 dollars ( http://bit.ly/dyyiql )
Server 3, used for http and tracker 100 dollars ( http://bit.ly/duzXCq )
Scene leech slot 50 dollars ( http://bit.ly/bPe24f )
Total. ~ 900 dollars excluding additions expenses that I do not feel like adding into this as I have already said enough.
Some things to notes.
All prices are converted into USD.
Server 1 used to cost 350 dollars until April in which the hosting was moved to 100tb.
I accept donations because I HAVE to with costs this high, even with donations though I still spend roughly 50 times the cost of a VPN monthly.
Server 3 actual specs are no longer available at the host, this is due to technology upgrades.
I may need a server 4 soon as server 2 is nearly filled, this would bring costs to nearly 1500 dollars.
The amount a VPN costs should easily be covered by you. I used to have to download from file hosts, it was total hell because people uploaded to whatever promised them money, which in term I would have to shell out money for file hosting accounts. In fact I think with the costs of premium accounts and the multitude of file hosts my leech spot may even be cheaper nowadays.
Meh seems fine doing it for a loss so why can’t you?
Sorry for long rant, just having flash backs of the hell it was downloading from file hosts back in the day.
If first comment goes through all screwy maybe it can be deleted as I noticed it got screwed up when I scrolled up to confirm the name of the other uploader.
File Hosting Directory Says:
I agree that Hotfile.com is the main competition to Rapidshare.com.
My opinion is that MediaFire is a good pick for overall best quality.
Why people would still use rapidshare is beyond me….
Plus you got tons of those new “file spread” websites like Qooy.com and others…
You can always look at http://www.filehostingdirectory to find constantly updated information about one click hosts, they change all the time it seems

Extremely useful if you regularly use “release blogs, warez forums” etc. It adds a little panel under each post, which can be clicked on to show all the links from the comments posted on the post. It even has toggle buttons to show/hide links from different filehosters.
heavy traffic european user Says:
I have NetLoad premium and Hotfile premium and I must say hotfile speed sux… I’m based in Europe and I always easily max my 10Mbit DSL line using NetLoad even with 1 non segmented download from netload. With Hotfile it’s different story - i can get max speed only if using heavy segmented mode… recently I set 8paralell connections from hotfile for single file download.. them it’s ok.. if use same settings as for netload.. speed sux totally.. I guess data just don’t go so quickly over ‘pound’ (hotfile servers is in usa, netload is in .EU).
As for other hosters - i like Filefactory (nice speed for free users) and recent superb free hoster is http://files.mail.ru... awsomly speeds without wait time (ok, it’s 5sec, but that’s nothing).
Megaupload seems to be also OK (tested only free download).
Anyway - my favorite is NetLoad.. no data transfer limits + great speed.

Rapidshare made a huge mistake when they stopped paying out rapidpoints.
Let’s be honest, most of the uploaders among want to make some money, and are not interested to donate to charity organisations.

filehostingdirectory Says:
Nice article. A few things worth mentioning are the features of each file host.
For example. cramit.in offers all registered users access to rapidleech script, to get files to their accounts, which can help if you just want to save the file directly to your account.
What about torrent leech option? Ravishare, metahyper, and a few others allow you to upload a torrent, then you can go to a different page. When you return, every file inside the torrent will be downloaded to your account.
Many other file hosting companies, enterupload, 10upload, cramit, metahyper, fileflyer, allow you to leech downloads from other file hosters. Enterupload can leech from filefactory, fileserve, megaupload, rapidshare, uploading.com, netload, and others.
Some of these options interest certain users
