BitTorrent’s most notorious mobile & phone tracker SyncTheBits has officially been relaunched with a fresh new look featuring the Gazelle sourcecode. The migration to Gazelle has been in the works for at least six months - and to welcome in the new codebase StB has opened the doors. After chatting with the founder of StB, a recent ‘open signup’ campaign was intended to only permit 150 new members - but we’ve now been assured that registration will continue to be open for the next 48 hours, at least.

(May 26th)** - Public registration to StB is now closed.

Switching over to a new tracker code usually has adverse effects: loss of upload data, class status, donation status and the like. Old members usually need to re-register, but StB provides a method for current members to retain their stats and simply migrate the account to new Gazelle. If you’re already a member of StC, use the migration link to import your old account.

SyncTheBits — ‘Bonus System’

This is dificult to implement in Gazelle (RC1) - a bonus system to reward members for seeding. But they’ve done it:

Bonus points can be used in the store for a variety of site options (custom title, upload credit, invites). Or even risk your points with other members in BlackJack and Fifty-Fifty.

On the torrent “Browse” page there are six category options:

Phone — StB mostly specializes in content for phones & PDAs (iPhone, Android & Java apps). These make up for approximately 80% of all torrents on site out of a total of ~4,000.

Video — Shrunken-down video releases (movies, tv eps) playable on portable devices in MP4, 3GP, even MKV format (many are ‘internal’ to StB).

Packs — StB’s “packs” include a wide range of apps for mobile devices, many of which can’t be found on other trackers or ‘DDL’ sites. These are exclusive and can pertain to PDA and iPhone devices, as well as PSP.

Ebooks — Not a popular category, but StB has some eBooks for mobile devices.

Console — This section’s picking up steam, especially among the PSP crowd. Loads of new PlayStation Portable games are offered here.
